I keep upgrading my account, and I can't seem to stop doing it. Six times total now, going from Adventurer to Explorer, then adding on a 6 pack of Prosperity tools for good measure. Each upgrade I think "it's not that much more to the next level..." Is this normal SotA behavior?

It's an "infection" that catches most people who dare to dabble in this awesome game.
    Welcome to the madness!

    I want a new drug
One that won't make me sick
One that won't make me crash my car
Or make me feel three feet thick

    I want a new drug
One that won't hurt my head
One that won't make my mouth too dry
Or make my eyes too red

One that won't make me nervous
    Wondering what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
    When I'm alone with you

    I want a new drug
    One that won't spill
One that don't cost too much
    Or come in a pill

    I want a new drug
    One that won't go away
One that won't keep me up all night
One that won't make me sleep all day

One that won't make me nervous
    Wondering what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
    When I'm alone with you
    I'm alone with you, baby

    I want a new drug
One that does what it should
One that won't make me feel too bad
One that won't make me feel too good

    I want a new drug
    One with no doubt
One that won't make me talk too much
Or make my face break out

One that won't make me nervous
    Wondering what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
    When I'm alone with you
    I'm alone with you

I started in the Kickstarter with a Royal Artisan pledge.

I now have a Lord Marshal pledge and a Village...

I am unable in good conscience to judge anyone's sanity. :)

I remember convincing myself to go to Citizen Pledge thinking I'd never go higher. And my wife thinking I was joking about Citizen :p

She said that must be some amazing game - "Uhhh, well you see, it's being made by someone that made a bunch of games I loved and sounds cool, and so far they have a few towns on an island and they're building the game and it should be ready in a few years....

...man I should have stopped talking when I was WAY behind."

More than a year later we're still married and she has her own property pledge now :p

I will share my own experience with this illness.

Year after year, I've searched for something new but old in spirit. I grew tired of the same linear experience where I choose a pair of crafting professions, power-level to cap and raid. I'd move on to the next big thing, only to find the same thing over and over.

Personally, I found subscription free, selective multiplayer games that contained an included story-driven campaign to be the evolution of the genre. I happily accepted this with great excitement, although I was unsure that any game could fill the void in my heart.

I looked at many different projects, also with experienced, successful developers. I even backed some of them gaining access to the alpha/beta but every game was missing something I needed. What would that be you may ask? A game that sparks my imagination!

This is the only game I've tried that causes my imagination to run wild simply by existing in the game world. I'm a Knight Commander! Atleast for the time being hehe. Who will be living next door to me? Across the street? Some secret assassin, or the savior of our world?

There are so many things running through my head when I enter the world and I haven't experienced this for a very very long time. I've upgraded my account numerous times, bought and merged a Founder account and I honestly don't believe my support will stop there.

For me, its not the addiction to the game itself, but rather, the feeling when my imagination takes me to places I've never been before.

    The stars have aligned!

In your post you didn't expect a great game, you demanded one. Big difference.

It is common to upgrade your account, and it can be addictive, but it's not necessarily healthy. I came to Shroud donating only because I wanted to thank the team for their prior creations and what it had given to me, I wasn't even sure I'd play it at that point as you can see; but I've since upgraded to Ancestor level, and spent here and there in the store too. And I see so much I wish I could have, but simply can't afford to do so.

However, whilst life got incredibly better over the weekend (yay dating), I've a number of real life issues that may prove challenging long term, and my income currently is low and likely to remain so; The next levels of funding for me are way out of any leap I could make, and the utility would be questionable even if I could. Depending on the results of a coming MRI scan, I may have to go in for brain surgery to remove a shard of bone inside my skull that's been discovered. Now I'm lucky in that I live in the UK, where we have the National Health Service, so it won't cost me a penny. But I'm very, very much aware that I've spent more on Shroud than I have on any other game in the last year already, and it's not even out of Alpha yet. But if I lived in the US or elsewhere, the obvious way to fund my health care would be to sell off my pledge again. And that makes me uncomfortable for my fellow man, and the balance of life and gaming...

So... yes, by all means raise your pledge if the game is fun to you, and whether you can afford it for now. But like any form of addiction in life, keep a hard eye on how it's affecting you and set yourself some hard limits for yourself. It's really not worth spending $100 or whatever on just a new table or risking your health or lifestyle for. Keep the spending genie in the bottle, because life doesn't deal us all the same hand.

Nemo - thank you for your pledge and support; I do totally agree with you. In spite of our overwhelming excitement and support for this game, real life always has to come first. I also would never want anyone to give more than they could afford.

We all just support the game as we can - and no more. So no stress at all!

Glad to hear about the dating, and all the very best on the romantic front; also best wishes for the health issues - hope all goes well there!

    The game is a drug.

I started off as adventurer, upgraded to Royal Artisan, then Citizen, then Lord, Lord Marshal then Baron and finally Duke. if that wasn't enough I then started to create numerous accounts and started doing similar things..... I even upgraded a standard steam account to citizen just so I could play a Dev+ test that was only available via steam.....not to mention buying several PoTs and pretty much all the adons I could find.

if somone has a cure please tell me.
