It used to be possible to free oneself from a rooting spider web with a few jumps, but it is much harder now. This is very frustrating when spiders are hitting you from behind and you are so rooted you can't even turn to hit them. Please make it easier to free oneself from a web or at least turn when rooted. If it were a real web, it would not be strong like iron fetters and it would be more elastic.

And then when you're jumping free, a spider hits you with another web.

It sort of bugs me when I have Immolation up and that web stuff isn't getting burned by the fire. Then again, neither is that cotton bush next to me that I came to harvest from when the spiders aggroed me from half a mile away...

I looked it up, it's a heavy armor tree skill that has a chance of removing stun/knockdown effects. Will this actually work against webs ?

Maybe the ability to break through webs should depend on:
    1) Avatars strength
    2) Spider size (small spiders make weaker webs, large spiders make stronger webs)
    3) Avatar's weapon - for example, blades can cut through a web and release the avatar, which would not be possible if the avatar had a bow equipped.
    4) As stated Elwyn above, fire spells around the avatar (such as immolation) should cause the web to decay faster

Maybe provide methods of resisting the web attacks. For example:
    1) A topical potion (e.g. armor oil) - when used, it applies a temporary slick surface on your armor that prevents the web from sticking to you (in essence provides a resistance to the web attack). This would be a great help when mobbed by spiders. Craft it from corpse wax, cotton (from which you get cotton seed oil), and suet (fat is greasy!).
    2) A shield spell (air discipline?) - a spell that blocks all physical airborn ranged attacks (spider webs, arrows, spit from mold/slime), but does not stop direct blows (from swords, hammers, etc) or ranged magic (fireballs, lightning, etc). This would help when mobbed by spiders, or when mobbed by archers.

It would definitely be nice to have some way to counter the webs more effectively!

For whatever reason I seem to be escaping from spider webs with a double tap on jump pretty regularly... does the web effectiveness vary with spider type?

Knight's Grace is the Heavy Armour users feature to remove all kinds of stun effects, but double tapping the A,S,D keys will also try to escape from the spiders web.
The feature of double tapping the SPACE-Bar doesn't seem to work anymore.

Good question - I don't know because I have been forced to avoid spider areas altogether. It's not something I am eager to test, but I will try out the A, S, D keys as @Sascha Biermanns suggests.

I find it curious that spiders pack hunt in New Britannia. Makes me long for the days of Ultima IV when combat was "instanced" into a scene and nothing else could join the attack until after your party was done with that scene. Now I can be fighting a thug or three and then another couple thugs run to join and then a spider or 6 join in and instead of conquering I'm finding myself running for my life.

Webs act like concrete. Unless they are rolling me up and hanging me from a tree it seems like spider webs should be a slow debuff.

    +1 for fire

or perhaps defensive roll. Pretty sure my flaming greatsword cutting huge swaths in front of me would mitigate a little ... lol

I've been rooted an entire 3+ spider fight. ( if they rotate their CDs well :p )

I don't know about that... according to what I've read, spider silk is pound-for-pound stronger and tougher than steel.
