Before any accusations of me not understanding how damage works etc. please just read.

Blades skill 90 (+50% dmg), Blade Mastery +0.6 dmg, 80 str, 60 dex, Ranged skill 75 (+36.9% dmg)
That is it for all the contributing stats.

    Test weapons:
Claymore +7, High str bonus, +2.6% str bonus, 8-24 base damage
Crossbow +2, Zero contributing bonuses, 7-21 base damage

Results against a practice dummy. (auto attacks)
Claymore: 6-22 damage, 33 dmg highest crit
Crossbow: 8-23 damage, 56 dmg highest crit

With all the bonuses that should be applying to melee damage from strength and skills, I personally believe blades should be MUCH higher.

Welcome to shroud of the avatar where everyone knows blades and full plate users are the red headed step children.... taunt is still broken or sucks.....blades dmg is nowhere near magic or archery....leather and cloth can be dyed and customized while plate is whenever the feel like getting around to it.....people continue to double dip and use heavy armor and light to get the benefits of both....basically if you want to play something balanced and that will get dev attention before episode 2 dont play melee or full plate

What your datas are showing is that archery should be nerfed.

Isn't auto-attack supposed to be lower damage than free attack? Did you try free attack to see what damage you got?

Blades hit multiple targets. Ranged is single target.

How many targets does a claymore hit? 3?

That is one skill that yes does tons of damage, but is not indicative of the entire fight.

Then why is blades damage split when hitting a single target? Must be this guy...

Keeps messing up my timestamp. Skip to 55 seconds.
    Many attackers...

Crossbow gets 2.5x crit instead of 2x because it has no strength damage

Melee damage is low there is no doubt. I am glad that they fixed lots of stuff regarding to melee though. Hopefully damage output will match with archers and mages at least. Because,

    1) You need to go to the target physically. Means lots of damage tolerance needed for fighters. While mages and archers can spam skills from distance safe and sound.
2)Melee fighters are easy to avoid. Once you wear heavy armor say bye bye to fancy magic skills. you ll unlikely able to catch your pray in light armor who is faster than you. My fleete flute even couldnt help.
3)Mages and archers have specific artifacts. Did you see any artifact increasing melee damage? Devilcult can suck 350 health from you by a single death spell and can spam that in 5 seconds 3 times. Before you figure out whats hitting you you are done for. I have plenty of gmed skills in death tree plus protection spells were on.

    4)Suprise attack chance is 0.
5)Runing away is not an option. Turning your back means certain death.

Ring of Brittle Brawn. I agree there should be more, however.

I totally agree. Problem with most games they give NPCs some resistances to make the gameplay more difficult the higher level you go. Well this comes to a problem of balance in PvP. That is great the NPCs have super resistances making the end game more fun and challenging, but players do NOT have those. Players do not typically have over 1k+ health pool to take hits either. Other than a player GMing nearly every spell for attunement to give 50 resistance (which isn't much) there is not much they can do.

On the other hand, there is physical damage. Every player has armor, every mob has armor. Not every player has 100 resistance to take normal damage from someone with 100 attunement.

That being said, please create another thread about that. This is specifically melee and ranged damage, or more so melee being completely under powered to its own base damages.

So a death ray specialist can kill you with a single blow?

Apart from that are you aware the crits that mobs do?

You asked a question, I told you the answer. Did you mean to ask a different question?

ok so what are you saying is the problem? what was the damage over time for say 5 min on each? ok damage looks in the favor or archer, however what's the speed on the hits for the sword and what's the speed on them slightly bigger hits with the bow ?
also what armor are you using ?

The benefit of the sword here, as I pointed out earlier, is that it hits up to three targets with each swing. The bow is single target only!

That's a huge misleading. I see archers performing attacks similar to a machine gun. If there is an archer in my party I need to check my damage report carefully to find my hits. I would love to hit a single person x8 time when I click on a skill. Would be fantastic.

If you're focused on damaging a single target rather than maximizing blade's major benefit, which is fighting multiple targets at once, then you're using the wrong skill set.

    1) Targets dont stay at the same place. For mages and archers this is so what? Matter of life and death for us.
For example: liches, they do teleport and move alot. Hitting 2 liches is possible if they walk to each other. Well your auto attack can still damage from far? However, we are painfully slow. Going to target once again cost us mana, buffs and health We are not able spam 1-2-3-4 from far.
    2) The damage is low comparing to archers and mages. I hit 2 targets once per second. You hit a single target per second how many times?

Being a warrior becomes aburden and pain when you need to visit higher level dungeons. I see warriors come to the rise and the fall with a party. (some old players with super duper high skills excluded). It is hard to say the same for other classes.

3)Youtube is full of videos "archer or mage vs dragon". I know a few warrior can do that but they have uber high skills with very best armors and still mostly depend on their spells more than they depend on their warrior capabilities.

Blades and Archery are not = Really? Never has been never will be . . .

You cannot just balance a skill off simple damg. numbers to a training dummy - that is ONE thing SotA has actually gotten pretty good at. . .

Sure there can still be some tweaks - BUT to make adjustments to satisfy hitting a single training dummy with auto attack is just a wonky and ????

When they reach "balance" anyone will still be able to make one or two changes and find they can hit harder / faster / better . . . . .

That is why achieving TRUE "balance" in a skill based game is impossible. There will ALWAYS be the skill / template / deck of the day !

Now someone is going to bring up "my blades was trained higher than my archery . . . ." irrelevant, there is so much more to balance than numbers.
