One of the first things I noted was a NPC saying "Just go north..." and my thought was "how do I know which way North was?". May have been interesting to ask him... but i just blew it off as something wed have later. Its still early. but since a NPC is referencing a compass direction makes sense well see them. Hmm.. although who knows if it will always work?
Yeah, the "which way is north" was one of many hopeless conversations. I'm at the extreme end of the scale of wanting big glowing beacons showing me which way to go. I get lost even in the houses.
It would have been neat if you asked which way was north, the NPC would simply point in that direction.
Yes to a adding a compass, please. Throughout my play sessions I was instinctively looking around my UI for a simple compass to help me get my bearings.
Agree fully, But the compass should not sit on the screen permanently. Just when you want it out kinda like the inv bag.
Agreed! Instructions from NPCs often involve directions, and it's frustrating not knowing which way is which!
I would want craftable compasses. No need for a permanent on screen one, just get a crafter to make you one. The problem with just NPC's pointing you in directions is what if there are no NPC's around while you are exploring far off places? Can't just ask someone to tell you directions. Yes, we need some type of compass, but I am all for just crafter made compasses and not the ones that are permanently stuck in the corner of your screen.
I totally agree with this. And also maybe add more "natural" ways of determining where the North is, i.e.: - Something like the North Star visible at night. - I hope the sun raises at East like on Earth. - Add some big, identifiable landmarks, for example if I am close to the sea and looking at a volcano just a few miles away I know that I am facing North. - Ants often build their nests on the southern side of trees. When I've seen how well made and realistic bird flocks were in R1, I thought it would've been nice to see some ant hills as well. - While in our real world this is not exactly true, they could make it so that moss always grows on the northen side of trees and rocks in New Britannia.
