No matter where I go I can not get the map to load is this a right or do I need to do something. Thanks
The map takes a while to load sometimes because its based on a web service. This is especially going to be true if you have a lot of server lag issues that cause other issues in the game, but its more of a problem here. Its one of the reasons I think they still have to do in-game integration of maps.
Although, come to think about it, one way the game can help players in the current design of things is to attempt to preload the map when the scene loads. Right now, it seems to only load when you bring up the map window by pressing M. That leaves many players with a blank map window for a while.
Especially confusing if the last scene you attempted to use the map in had no map- when you open the map in a scene with a map, you'll see the "no map in database" alert until the map loads, instead of a blank map. IF you don't know this, and it's a scene you're not familiar with, you might close the map before it loads, thinking there isn't one.
I haven't had a problem with the map loading in general, what I have seen is scene specific and would take basically visiting every scene and noting the exact issues, but so far what I have noted is: - Right map loads, but placement is slightly off from actual position (Eastmarch is a culprit) - Right map loads, but is rotated to the wrong direction (Westend is a mirror of Kingsport, but the map uses the Kingsport orientation) - Right map loads, but position is COMPLETELY off making it useless (Kiln Cistern is the biggest offender here) - Wrong map completely loads (Opalis Ruins does this) - No map available (Wandering Encounters mainly, some set scenes) Basically the entire map system needs a thorough going over and correcting.
I think that the ability to have a proper map is more important than Port seems to think. IMO, it needs moving up on their priority list.......
Probably flipped. I've seen a few cases of that. Also, sometimes the red arrow points in the wrong direction, though lately I've stopped paying attention to that. Pre-uncloning maps abound.
The issues with maps came be game blocking. I tried to do an easy quest in Long Fall Woods last night. The map was so wrong & useless, but strangely the "markers" on the map were correct. That is, I could stand in front of a crypt or house & on the map the marker was correct, But the roads & landscape on the map had no relationship at all to the actual landscape.
Yes I agree a 100%. Also we will need a native in game map really. This map we have currently was a good temporary map fix. But I am getting more and more annoyed with it.
The maps come from a former independent service. As far as I can see from the behaviour of the map-feature it is loaded via http:// into the game. Maybe your firewall blocked the access?
Thats because the map was originally developed by a player (Kor) who is now their web developer and many of the areas need redoing as the scene used to be a clone of another scene so the map is probably still showing the old scene. Not excusing it not working or not being done
Oh my bad, someone told me it was Kor who did sotamap, either way it was acquired by Port from the player that developed it and is still very much a WiP
