    From the player hand guide:

~ The ‘Q’, 'R', and ‘E’ keys will rotate the object during placement.
~ Tapping ‘R’ while moving a book or block decoration flips its axis by 90 degrees. This only works with books and blocks at the moment.

R does nothing for me and hasn't since I started playing this game in R33. Yet I see screenshots with other people vertically placing weapons and books.

How are people getting this accomplished?

I remapped my "R" keys functionality and have never been able to vertically rotate a decoration since. I get my sister who hasn't remapped R to do it for me. >.<

I just put R back to start combo glyph and it fixed it. Bad juju!

@Berek Is there a way to fix this? I've done the same to mine and can't figure out how to reset it. (Going back to default settings did not fix it, either.)

It's the same key as Start Glyph Combo. Whatever key you have set to that will be the same for rotating a decoration vertically.

You can only rotate items while you're dragging them. Also, many items simply cannot be rotated vertically.

So far, the only one I have found is books, they flip between two positions. It isn't a true rotation. :(

Coins flip vertical or horizontal. Flip twice to turn over.

Most rotate 90° with each key press. While it's quantized to 90°, it's still a rotation. However, you can call it whatever you want. :)
