The taming buff is 10 levels for your pet, not for the taming skill.

I would expect wyverns to be on par with ancient bears. Ancient bears are already boss-worthy themselves with over 5k health and crits that can put end game folks on a panicked defensive.

Wyverns will likely be serpant-like and have a neat ability like poison or root or something. Or fire!

Shame that the Ancient Bears have been bugged ever since I've been able to tame one... would love to try it.

All I know is that if there are no summon buffs in R57 I'm going to unlearn all of my summoning skills, Death tree skills, cease updating my guides, and just put everything into taming. Through my entire experiences with combat pets here, I find taming to be far more enjoyable and worth the time than the time I have spent training and raising my summoned pets (even GMing all of the Undead, raising their passives past GM level, using the Ancient Staff of Death artifact and enchantments that buff death damage), as the best I've ever gotten with summons is mediocre at best, and appallingly bad at worst.

Basically, I would much rather tame and raise a baby wyvern than keep summoning a Lich if nothing changes.

Also, I want to be able to grow and use our Wyverns as mounts along with mounted combat someday if summons continue to go buffless.

Imagine that...an army of Wyvern Knights....

I may have to put my 23 mill pooled xp into summoning & combat training to get great stats on the ancient obs bear and baby dragon (instead of taming). I may need someone to tame me one of each. I can supply taming whistles and collars if needed.

I think the amount of taming you need to tame critters is way too high …… period..... not fun....

I think the whole point is that taming be very hard and expensive, hopefully taming will be worth the efforts.

The design for taming is high risk/work for high reward.

And now with summons & pets scaling, the high reward is now there to match the difficulty.

To the powers that be: Please don't making taming easier in this wave of "Accessibility" improvements. NO NO NO NO NO!

The scaling for summoned pets is still very poor. At GM Earth Elemental does 22-25 damage with 60 crits. Better than before, but still not worth using it over the water elemental.

But yeah, I absolutely agree that taming should remain difficult and time consuming.

Well they are certainly working on the Wyverns, as mentioned in the stand up post. Possibly, if they feel they are ready for release, they might just add them to the actual release (not the test server).

    http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Pseudodragon_(familiar)

I'd be ecstatic if the wyvern can do just half the things the Neverwinter Nights pseudo dragon could do. They could help hurt the enemy and/or poison them. A pseudo dragon would also automatically go into stealth mode when you did.

And if you were the right class (ie. sorcerer) it was possible to possess them and scout around. Pardon the primitive graphics, this was an old game - which I think underlines some very needed things in SOTA as far as pets are concerned.

Fyi - looks like summoned pets will start scaling. My ice elemental will finally be of some use.

"Most summoned pets should now be working as they should always have been working. All elementals, daemon, and phoenix pets were set to do a fixed amount of damage that didn't scale up with power. I just fixed this. Before the fix, with all skills at 100, earth elementals would hit for 2 to 12 ish damage, average around 7. After the change with all skills at 100 he was hitting for 23-35 damage with 60+ point crits."
