Chopping tree ?

Does anyone know how to harvest wood ?

I have a harvesting axe but where and how to chop tree ?

 

It has to be specific trees, not any tree. In earlier videos it was a red tree

 

The red/brown trees. Put your Axe (Harvesting Axe / Axe of Prosperity) on the Quick Bar, for example Place 1 - go to the wood and search for a red/brown tree - stay infront of the tree and click 1 - you chopp the tree and get some wood..
Same to skinn hide from animals.... Kill them first...

 

You don't have to equip the tool directly?

 

No, you "use" the tool, so you have to have it with you. You can either double-click it in your inventory, or as noted, put it in your shortcut bar to use it. This is very similar to how LOTRO does gathering.

The one thing that I found annoying is that if you use your gathering tool near multiple potential targets, it only targets the closest, even if it is "used up". So you have to walk around so you are closer to another to try to harvest again. This is especially apparent when killing a pack of wolves and then using the skinning knife.

Does anybody know any specific places where to search for "harvestable" trees?

 

Exit town to the world map, and go to just about any non-road hex. Double-click to enter. There are two wilderness ones that have good selections of trees; one is a forest and stream with elves, the other is hills with spiders. Find a tree with red leaves and use your axe while nearby.

 

This threw me totally--everything else in the world works by double-clicking to interact, so I assumed that I just had to equip my harvesting axe, double-click on a tree, and go to town. I spent a bunch of time wandering around among wolves yesterday doing this. Is there any possibility that this could be a redundant/UO-style way of harvesting, since it seems a lot more intuitive given the rest of the controls?

 

I like the way they chopped trees down in the 3 month demo showing a bit at a time and showing gathered wood in your bag after each hit, now its just chop chop and the tree is down and wood is in your bag, they should go back to original idea.
