    Lord Brit,
In the olden days we used pack horses to travel from the mining location with the ore to town or our home. I remember losing many pack horses in Fel along the scary road and place you created. I remember I had to move from one part of Moonglow FEL (was perm red) to my new sandstone on the moonglow road in fel from the gate on the Atlantic server. Now my last trip I was exhausted. I got to my door with my packhorse and out of nowhere where 2 blues and BAM I was a dead ghost standing next to my packhorse. The one blue I still remember his name: Makaveli said "Holy @#$ All of his rares are in here!" In that pack horse I lost 2 plant full sets and they where my pride and joy. Boat load of regs, other magic swords, items I cherished that I purchased or looted form my kills in fel. That was a 10 million gold piece hit in seconds! So now that technology allows us to go from your 2d watch above mode into this wonderful 3 d world can you create the same traveling system. This time I would prefer to raid and kill blue players that are walking down the road with wagons full of loot. Not just pack horses. The excitement of traveling through Fel with valuable game assets with the chance of loss and risk!!! is what kept me playing for all of those years. Plus every blue loves to hunt a red mage!

Yeah, will it be possible to have wagons like in Ultima 7 as an actual vehicle for moving multiple people?

It was one of the aspects from single player that did not make it into Ultima Online. Will roads be able to allow for carts?

I ran a private UO server for a time and one of the things that I added was a custom quest that involved the transporting of goods across Felucca. Naturally we did not have wagons so pack animals were used as a substitute. The general idea was to have an NPC hire you to transport their wares to another random town. Once you accepted the quest the NPC gave you 4 heavy crates, to heavy for you to carry and to heavy for a single pack animal to carry more then one, this meant you had to have a caravan of pack animals (gates and recall were blocked to any creature that carried these crates). Your goal was to cross Felucca without losing any crates and deliver the goods to the target town and the correct NPC. PKs could steal your crates and turn them in at Bucs Den for a reward so it could be a real challenge getting your crates to their destination. If you succeeded in getting all the crates of goods delivered your reward could be great (the longer the space between starting and ending towns the greater the reward), for each crate you lost the reward greatly diminished.

This gave people a good incentive to risk Felucca and also gave the pvpers great incentive to seek out these caravans. I wouldnt mind seeing something similar set up in SotA. Slow cumbersome wagons would be a great addition to this with a greater reward of course.

Of course, Ultima VII only had carriages because horses weren't mountable in the game. :>

But yea it would be cool to have carriages.

Lebowski, I don't mean to pee on your rug, but I'd like for you to lift up the toilet seat so I can show you something o_O
Gold Sinks do not exist in the real world! You're living in a fantasy world where you alone feel this needless desire to fulfill you own goals in life by wanting the good hard working dollar of your fellow man to head strait down a toilet! It's because of gold sumpers like you, that we have to endure this endless cycle of regret through other's people's hard worked poverty. If a man wants to walk down the street proud of what he's made, then let him do what everyone else does in the free world and find some schmuck like you, and have them muck along to open the doors, take out the trash and escort their goods to the next town in relative safety. It's all up to you Lebowski! You can create some mechanical sump, where everyone gets as lazy as you are, or embrace your coming future in a pay to play escort service for those who truly wish that you would just leave them alone! Think about it Lebowski!'

You're out of your league, Donny.

I do support the general notion that NPC's should be used less than their human counterparts though. :)

What's awesome is they even made a Mac version of Exult for BOTH PPC and Intel, pretty amazing for free software.

Amazing to see they're still working on it in 2013 too. That's dedication

Having different mount types can add some variety in the game.

There also was the magic carpet to transport your party.

Not very sure how the mechanics would be implemented for this though. World of Warcraft seemed to be able to accomplish mounts that transported multiple people. It can add another facet to travel by having individuals with the means to cabby people to and from various locations.

I'm all for mobile covered travelling wagons. Many players would prefer a nomadic life which doesn't really conflict with the idea of moving about in groups. It would also introduce a new type of guild which isn't centered on a castle or house or inn as its central headquarters.

Gypsies and nomadic traders are a must for this game. Some transient groups or individuals that help carry goods and services between cities. Hell, even a postal carriage could be sent between cities just for added traffic on the main roads.

Certainly having the ability to own your own cart / carriage would be awesome for bulk cargo transport between areas. It's being done in Star Citizen so why can't it be done in SotA :D
I need to transport my brews far and wide across New Britannia. I need a cart to do that :)

But how would it look like on the overland map. The players are represented by a flag. The icon would have to change to represent you on a carriage or would it not be noticeable on the overland map?

The map is not the terrain. It represents you whether you are a person, or a giant medieval transformer.
