    Greetings all.

I just wanted to introduce myself real fast. I somehow managed to miss all the news on this world until recently. I am hooked for sure. I am currently trying to catch up on the VAST amounts of information; part of the problem with not getting in back with the founders.

So, as the post states, I am going to be opening up a P.O.T. I already have my pledge and a Holdfast on my account. I am waiting on my last black Friday bonus to kick in tomorrow to get the upgrade up to a Hamlet.

I know that STEAM will be kicking in at the beginning of next month, so I wanted to get some thoughts out on my design ideas to see how the community responds to them. I KNOW that the people here now, are in this game for the long haul. Steam players may be more in it for the "new" factor.

Ok, so here are my initial ideas for this POT.

    1. I don't currently have plans to become a Metropolitan. However, I am open to upgrading, I just cant budget it on my own.

    2. PVE - reasons will be obvious as I flesh this out.

3A. I would like to have a farming theme as a basis for this POT. I plan to offer, at a minimum, 1 row lot for each housing lot to use as farmland/resource creation. This game is going to need resources at the lowest level. I would like to establish this POT as a source for all of those needs.

3B. Housing is "supposed" to be rare and not 100% of population (1:1 ratio). Because of this I believe that most people will be more concerned about housing on land and that farming will be minimal on their lots. By encouraging more farms, we can create a hub where supply and volume create a great market for base materials needed in game.

    4. Because I would like to establish a farming/resource community, I plan to look for a location on a major travel route in-between major cities/metropolitans. Maybe a shore, but only if it is too good to pass on. I want land for planting... water won't work there. Water is not a sin so if there are water lots, whoever claims it needs to have a farm lot to go with that cabana =P. By being able to produce large volumes of base goods, we can therefore create a great volume price and desire for trade runs from this POT to others.

    5. Government - I don't plan on having one in a traditional sense. I plan to more run this like a Home Owner's Association. I will have to flesh this out a lot more. I think a large influence will be on keeping a large ratio of farm land to housing. As a community we will also "police" (sorry military term =) there) each other to work out a fair market price (no huge influx in prices), no jerks, no dead/abandoned property.

5B. I know life happens, but know that if a property goes abandoned for a long period of time, that owner needs to sub-lease the land to an active player, or they will lose those lots. The idea of this town is to provide a steady flow of product to the rest of the world. This is what we will be known for.

    6. Economy. Other businesses will be accepted, allowed and encouraged. I just want to have the ratio of farms to businesses/housing in favor of the farms. This INCLUDES ME. I will be leading by example. I will have a big ass house, but i will have a farm lot for every house lot as well. For this community, that farm lot can be a ROW lot. If you all noticed, most housing is village lots or higher. Some exceptions may be made in cases where there is one lot open.... however, we MAY ask that the person going on that lot, put a small building on it allowing for efficient use of the land. MAYBE. there may be someone that has more than one farm lot. This opens up another lot for an entrepreneur to move in and just run a business (ex Inn, Alch shop, etc).

    7. Provided to community. I am a Lord Marshal. I will be placing all 8 crafting stations that I get into a pavilion (add on store building) for ALL to use. the final 2 stations will have to be done by others in the POT, unless I can get help in getting those in the add-on store. I have no interest in moving up to the Baron Level Pledge. Based on the interest that I get as this moves to launch, I will place all other buildings on lots for others to rent/lease. This includes all basements. If there are no lots to do this on, I will likely sell off some of those buildings. I am not hoarding land to myself. I got this POT so I can avoid the land rush (real life), and even more so, to become a bigger part of this community and to provide value to the game-world.

7B. At the current POT size, I won't have much as far as NPC buildings (2 allocated at Hamlet level). Priority will be given to a BANK. Beyond that, I/we would need more in game information to select anything beyond that.

7C. As mentioned I will be getting the add-on store pavilion (buying with my $) for crafting. Maybe a second one or a Barn as well.

7D. At my pledge level I have access to the Royal Orb and Royal Scepter. I plan to use these to help active members of the community each month.

    8. There is a strong possibility that I will accept help to upgrade this to a larger POT. However, I still have that dream/desire to keep it a farming community. I have to think about this a lot. I will share leadership of the community, but I am active military and don't want this to become a second job. I want to have fun.... just like everyone else. :)

    9. Oh yeah, you can probably see why this will be a PVE POT. PVP is the last thing I personally want to deal with while trying to harvest farm land.

    10. Community plans/events/businesses. Off the top of my head, I can see this community developing trade route/escort "companies". Resource gathering teams... I am sure I am overlooking many possibilities.

    11. I will be creating a "guild"/community website to be used by residents and allies. We can use it to post services and products that we are offering to others.

    12. I don't have a POT name yet... taking suggestions.

    13. IF I go into a mode of accepting help to upgrade to a larger POT. Funds will be put towards a gaining a % of rent paid by the community. Essentially, all rent collected by the POT, will go back to the POT residents after community expenses are paid for. Rent will be a minimum, but I tend to think that by having some rent, we keep an active community that wants to be there. Community lots for crafting etc are NOT tax free to the game system. Some rent will have to be charged to support these community lots and buildings/materials that we want to build there. I don't think it is fair for me to pay for all of this, then on top of that pay all of the gold in monthly taxes by myself as well.

    14. I will accept City size lot requests. Owners of these lots will still have a row lot for a farm, just like all others. I am NOT in a competition to have the biggest lot, or house. If your E-Peen is bigger... good for you! You can still find a place here as long as you fit in with the rest of the philosophy. :)

14B. I know from experience, that large benefactor/founder pledges cost a lot. Players that went for these pledges but can't/dont want to get a POT can find a home here. I will work with all that we accept on the design and plot allocation during design sessions with the DEVs. However, I do go into this with some trepidation as someone may say they want in, we allocate a huge lot, then they bail out at the last minute and we have a huge lot we can fill. Just keep that in mind. :)

14C. Having the biggest house/lot will not make you the mayor or leader. the philosophy stays the same and if you are an @$$, we will kick you out just ass easy as a Row house owner.

    15. No one has to farm their housing lots. That is why I plan on having a second row lot (can be bigger than row) for each community member to farm on. Have FUN with your house!!!! Throw parties, whatever!

    16. In summary... for now: I am looking for a community that wants to keep things a little more low key. We will be providing a valuable resource to the world at the expense of fewer residents. We won't be getting caught up in the crazy side of wars/politics. We will work with other cities/guilds. We will exist and thrive through reputation and the ability to deliver what others are looking for. The rules will be few, but enforced.

So anyone have any thoughts? Do you think I am off my rocker, or is this something that you might be interested in?

One last thing. I am not taking any requests/reservations for lots at this time. I know that players want to have a plan though and I feel the same. I just don't have enough of the structure/operations fleshed out yet to make promises to players. I want to be sure that I can deliver 100% on promises made. Again, this is a feeler to see if I have a decent base-line to work off of, or if I need a major overhaul.

Pending reactions from others, I suspect I can start taking reservations by the time we go live to Steam.

Thanks for your time! I will update this as I have more to put out and once I get those websites up.

    Respectfully,

    Lord Marshal Grayle

    New thoughts!!

    1. I am not starting a guild. Other guilds can exist in this POT. Just adhere to the philosophy and all is good.

    2. IF I end up accepting help. I will also get a Team Speak 3 server that can handle at LEAST the number of people living in this POT. It will be available for groups to use as long as one of the participants is part of the community.

    3. I want to compliment, and thank, many of the communities out there already. I am learning a lot by going through your posts, visiting websites and watching your videos.

You'll need to adjust this part of your thinking. Row lots can't be farm land.

Wow! Thank you very much for that info. That is a bit of a deep dive from way back in R6. Very much appreciate that! I knew I needed to wait until R12 to actually figure out some of this in game. This lets me focus better.

You're welcome. I appreciate the fact that you put your thoughts out here like this. I can tell you have a good mind for this and I like your approach of asking for help instead of pretending that you have all the answers. That's unfortunately rare around here at the moment.

I'm glad I could point that out to you. Like you said, it's information that was posted quite some time ago and honestly I can see how you'd miss it in R12. It doesn't really jump out at you (or me) from looking at a row lot that you can't just make it empty.

I know you'll take this information and use it to make your idea even better. Which is saying something because it's a good idea.

Welcome Grayle. I'm happy you made the discovery, and also how cool that you will get a player own towned, Hamlet that is you said. :)

POT is up to a Village now.

I wanted to put out that I have to take a step back on finalizing my plans for the POT. I am not 100% sure Portal will be putting in functionality that will support all the hopes for this plan.

Thanks to information sent to me in PM's, I have already made some significant changes to the original plan. As I mentioned, until more information on the features of POT plots are finalized by Portal, I am going to hold off on putting out the info.

That being said, I do want to put out this information well in advance of release. Currently, my POT is self-financed, non guild owned. I will be depending on this in order to fill this POT with a great community.

    Thanks!

    Grayle
