    I went searching on this topic in the forums and came up empty.

    I have never spent much time on a forum that actually makes use of the "like" feature as much as this one. I am wondering how people feel about it.

    Having the likes under your avatar on every post makes me feel like there is a sort of punishment for posting. I even find myself looking at other people's likes as if it is supposed to tell me something. Obviously, the "intent" to to improve post quality, but that is pretty subjective on a social forum.

    So, I actually like a ton of posts mostly because I feel I am helping remove the posting penalty for other people. It is sort of like going around and filling parking meters. Not that I don't actually think a lot of posts are great, I am just saying...

    I like what I like and try not to think about it too much beyond that. I'm sure there is someone out there with puppet accounts to like their posts and such, but I'd rather answer all the questions I can and try to be helpful rather than worrying about imaginary points.

    There are a lot of likes thrown around because I think this is overall a fairly positive and supportive community, even if we disagree strongly on certain issues (wanting more of a single player game vs UO2, PvP debates, Llama vs Donkey, etc)

    I'm not what I consider a "like-happy" fellow. Everyone has their own reasons for using the like feature.

    I use it sometimes when someone says something I really do like for whatever reasons.. but in addition to that I also make to like posts (that I like of course) from people I often disagree with, because I want them to know I don't take things personally. I don't care who you are.. if we get along well, agree on a lot of things.. or we just really can't seem to see eye to eye on hardly anything.

    Captain Jack did a few searches on "forum likes" and found that most of the topics discussing such things are locked or deleted.

    Just for clarification.. a lot of threads are locked simply because they're old. In fact, I'd say the vast majority of locked threads are locked for that reason. I'm not sure of the exact criteria though..

    It sounds like a system of respect and seniority.
    Someone with a lot of likes on their profile is obviously someone who is well respected in the community. Thus, their opinions are given more weight than a newbie, such as I.
    Post counts are also like this. However, if I wanted 1000 posts on my profile, I could easily just spam in random forum game threads in the Fire Lotus Tavern to boost my count. To receive a like, I actually have to post something that contributes to the community.

    I'd like to think that good posts are well received if they are from new members. But the like system should promote good posts over spamming in game threads.

    I believe the like system also cuts down on frivolous posts.

    I my self find myself not commenting on certain posts cause I truly have nothing new, relevant or mind blowing to add to the post.

    I do not think someone with 1000 likes deserves more respect than some one with less likes or posts.
    respect to me has to do with content of your post not if I agree with your view point but its content.

    their are several forum posters that have huge number of likes and postings yet I do not respect their opinions just from their status of likes or not. it has actually been their lack of content that has earned them skip what ever they have posted attitude I have on that name.

    welcome aboard Athens I look forward to you posts and opinions.

    I agree with this.

    I do have to confess that I don't get the chance to read the forum nearly as much as I would like, so my trawling is hardly exhaustive. When I come across a post that I agree with, or "does" something for me, I "like" it. To me it's a way of saying "hear hear!"

    But don't put to much stock on what I like or don't - there are probably a lot more things I would also like if I was able to find the time to read them all as well......

    It is a fair indicator of somebody who is generally helpful BUT there are also people who don't talk much and quietly just post bug reports (which usually people don't tend to throw likes at).
