I don't know if the light spell has gotten brighter, or if it's just that it's always right in the middle of my camera view. But it's soooo bright that I find myself trying not to use it.

It can be a bit much. If I'm relatively stationary, I tend to cast it on pets or NPCs instead.

I never use any light sources...the day/night cycle is so quick and the gamma settings are so bright by default - why would I?

Even in my unlit basement I can see without a light source.

The real problem is that the game is not dark enough. But because there are a WIDE variety of player opinions on what is and is not dark enough - my compromise solution would be to make light source stop adjusting darkness and instead allow players to FIND things in the dark, like other players, monsters, resources, secrete passages, etc...

I would make any light source REALLY heavy, REALLY rare and tax anyone who's too bright.

You probably need to adjust the settings on your monitor or something. I can't see anything in my basement without a light source. The problem with these sorts of things is every monitor is different. That's why there is usually a gamma correction mechanism.

Saying lighting is fine because you've set your monitor to super-ultra-gamma doesn't really seem appropriate ;)

It would probably be a programmer's nightmare to have an option to adjust the amount of light it gives it in-game.

Turn your bloom effect off on video options.

    Worked for me.

I haven't got the light spell yet, as I haven't "leveled" to get some points yet. But for me it's entirely too dark. When it gets dark I can't see a bloody thing and the torch only helps a little. So I sit it out in my house and go afk until it gets light or just log out. Maybe some people don't have a problem with it, but obviously some do. I really think a gamma slider is a necessary option. Either that, or give us the option to always have bright moonlight at night, and those who don't like it can opt for full dark. Everyone has different monitors and vid cards, etc, in addition to different personal preferences.

Next release should have moon magic with night vision. That is (hopefully) going to be awesome!

Don't forget that this ability is one that you have 1 point in by default. ;) Unless you took it out, of course.

Thanks. Actually I didn't know that. Will check it out today. I haven't played for a very long time and with all the running around yesterday just trying to find things (still haven't found a vendor selling arrows), I never even looked at the skills yet. Just assumed I had no points and the brief fighting I did was with the default so far. :)

No worries! If you're a night owl, feel free to look me up in-game if you need any additional info regarding combat or skills. :D

PS - The Blacksmith in the Market Area of Owl's Head (he's in one of the buildings by the fountain) sells the arrows you need!

I thought so as well in r13 but I find in r14 the graphics for me are much much much improved and the glowing orb is dulled down a bit.

I am running Ubuntu 64 bit with a radeon card. I had horrible lighting artifacts in r13 and now its like a whole new game.

I see that they changed it!!! The light is less bright now and has tinges of red in it. Much better!
