I've been playing Pillars of Eternity a lot this weekend and one thing I love about the magic system is the use of spell books.

This is a re-request for spell books in SOTA.

It's an amazing feeling finding another wizard's spellbook, copying his spells as your own, keeping his spell book in your library of books.

I think there's still plenty of room for this in SOTA, what with the unlimited number of combos that could be in the game.

    Please?

Totally agree, probably the best system of spell books I have ever seen.

Same here. Finding a spellbook in POE has been the only rush I have gotten out of the looting system thus far. Love how you still have to pay to transcribe spells too. It definitely makes Mages feel like Mages.

That's a great question. And it's so wide open I don't have a great answer for you because the devs have shown that it's usually better just to say "hey, we want this" and not "hey, here's a system we want you to build with a 35 page proposal". Of course, other times the devs say "Thanks for offering possible solutions". It's hard to tell what really drives change here sometimes.

I'm sure I could come up with a way to do it. But instead I'm just going to ask for it, and if the devs can do it, maybe they will.

They talked about having some spells only trainable at certain trainers, and havign to find a special trainer for the highest tier spell. What if instead of a special trainer, you had to find and learn the highest tier spells?

EDIT: THinking about having to learn some magic skills isntead of being taught by a trainer gives me a greater feeling of immersion from thinking about it.

Right, they have said that there will only be one trainer that has tier 5 spells in the entire game. That it will require a completed quest to get the spell.

I was thinking that instead of combos being something you could just "do", maybe that's where the books could come in. You'd have to put combos in your book and then if you lost your book you'd no longer have the combos.

The devs could make it so your spell book displays what your current spell capabilities are ..... If I was Fire and died and a mob now had my book or a copy of mine and Drocis Kills that mob but he was Water .. He could use my book's known skills to train in fire up to my level for free..

One way It could work .

That's exploitable, but I love the spirit of what you're trying to do.

I'd love to see spell books integrated into the crafting system. Being able to craft a spell book from dragon scales (for example) to give you extra protection from fire spells.

I think there's also room for a "master spell book" which you'd keep in your bank. And travelling spell books, that could be looted (pvp only) or destroyed (in pve).

Agreed:). There are so many things SotA could highly benefit from Pillars, especially in terms of Story Telling, Game Presentation and Out of Combat Skills and Spells
