Why can't I cast light while I have the coconuts equipped?

    Because you are "mounted". The error shows up in the chat log.

    [edit] In fact, why can't I use anything on my non-combat hotbar while mounted?

    Because then mounted would be OP.

    There would be no reason to un-mount, if you could do everything while mounted.

    For immersion purposes, I would suggest that riding a mount would be distracting from the focus required to cast the magic spell.

    If you can cast a spell holding two swords then you definitely NOT be able to cast a spell holding two coconuts.......that would just be overpowered and stupid :D

    Because holding a coconut let an animation run so you can't cast. Is the same as sitting.
