OK now don't mock me. More than usual anyway.

How do I capture in-game video and sound, for playback, while playing SotA?

    On a PC.

Simple hand-holding "Budner-it's-going-to-be-OK-you-can-do-it" instructions are best.

    Thanks!

What video card do you have, Budner?

I ask because your answer to that question would effect my answer to yours........

Ok then, had your GPU been an NVidia GeForce GTX 650 or higher, I would have suggested Shadowplay.

Since that's not an option, I can recommend what I currently use, OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), which is not only free but also Open Source - a big plus, IMO.....:D

I experimented with several apps before settling in with OBS, and here's why I've stayed with it.

Whatever recording software you use, by necessity - will be running at the same time as Shroud, capturing the video you're seeing.
How it processes all this in real time can (and does) affect your ingame framerate as well as the final output - (Shadowplay pretty much exempt, but it's not an option for you, being very specifically GPU dependent - just stating that for reference) .

For me, whatever video recorder I use must have no discernable fps effect on my gameplay.
Well, OBS is doing that for me....

Having said that, if you do check out OBS I'd further recommend you google OBS on YouTube, because I'm pretty sure I optimized my settings for gameplay from a video there.
How you set your options in any recorder is very important...

Anyway, whatever app you end up using, I'm sure you'll have fun making movies, Budner ;)

*And then after I thought about all that for a sec, what came to mind was.......*omg - do NOT let Budner make movies....
    This can not be good...
I know I'm gonna regret this*

But then I said, wt* Go for it, Budman :)

OBS all the way. We run NBNN using it.

Did the same thing. tried several other apps and even considered paid apps. OBS does the job plus some.

Yes! And HAVE FUN With It! That's part of the whole experience

Something pushed Budner over the threshold to consider this... Hmm. It's the coconut bras, isn't it?

    OBS
Capturing in game Footage and your Webcam and give you the possibility of overlays.
    Audacity
If you want to improve the sound quality of your videos or adding music.
    Windows movie maker
or a freeware video editing/cutting program.

Thanks all. Will try OBS for my home computer with the older graphics card.. I have an Nvidia QUADRO K1100M in my system at work which is much higher end, and I'll also try Shadowplay for that.

Used Fraps to make that video. It was pretty easy to use.

Any way to remove the jerkiness from the mouse movement?

    @Budner
Don't know whether it helps with jerks but there is a SotA setting for how fast the mouse movements will be.

On Mac I use ScreenFlow and in Windows I use MSI Afterburner. Both work great with a key press to start and stop recording.

I believe that the Budman is perfectly capable of discovering subjects for his debauchery without further assistance from any of us....

Kindly refrain from aiding and abetting these efforts......... :D

Unfortunately Shadowplay is only available for Nvidia GeForce GTX GPU's.....

Good suggestions, Edward... And all 3 are free to use.
Audacity has been around for many years, is tried and true and quite easy to use for all your audio tracks....

***And then I thought: Omg - Budner audio AND Budner video***
