Why is it so hard to just place the character you want.

Before when I answered ( I believed I did it the same ) I want a fighter, now I got a mage. Answer yes to all question. Delivered the money, let him surrender, etc . Now I got a magic user.

Why can they now let us just pick our own class without all this BS.

Why must it be a delete restart and all that over and over again to get what you want.

Do not say you can be a fighter any time. All my glyphs are magic user.

    This is just so annoying

It made me a magic user and I played as a fighter anyway. I never liked the virtue test either.. never lets me do what I would really do.

I haven't been in the new release yet, but last release when starting a new character, the gypsy asks if you wanna change classes at the end of all the questions... doesn't this still happen? You should be able to choose your 'class' from her list of classes.

    In release 26 -
If you read the conversation Arabella has with you, she tells you that your answers will lead you to being a ______ class. She then gives you another choice - If you don't like it, you can redo your choices.

So, you don't have to delete the character - unless you want to, that is.

And the BS is a nod to the history of the game - which might be frustrating if you don't have the history, I guess? But it also ties in with the quest path you will be taking in the story portion, so it does tie into the current game as well.

Does this make a major change to your character? Or can you still eventually turn it into whatever you want?

It offers the exact same choices given by the questions.. just allows you to switch.

Having tried it in previous releases, I'd say in the long run it didn't for me. You do get the advantage of having those skilled leveled off the bat if you start in the particular class though.

Thought it was easier to level the other new class though, if I worked on a few basic/shared stats (like health and stuff) before trying to level up/switch to the wanted new class skills. The new skills are still fast to go up either way. Lower level skills are always faster to level than higher skills.

    Welcome to the forums!

You aren't limited in anything, it just gives you some basic starter gear and freebie skills.

I pick ranger path just because I want the arrows from the start.

I plan on going pole arm to build up some strength first, though.

The "class" that we pick is only for initial start up skills, we don't need to follow the path right after we got into the actual game.

i chose mage that way, because i did not want a weapon of any sort, just casting the spells around was very sustainable without having any sort of autoattack. when i got hit, i also got hit pretty hard, so i think it was sortof balanced.

And really, level 20 skills arent going to ruin your build in any way. Just train as you wish after you are given the freebie skills.

I went with Melee (for the heavy armour skill boost) but plan to use bludgeon and death.

On my alt, I went with light armour mage instead. Probably use bludgeon as well as death too.

    Michellia,

The 'class assignment' is an ode to the early Ultima RPGs that preceded SotA. In the early Ultima games, you became the class you most embodied through actions and beliefs.

Like others pointed out, you are not stuck with a class you do not wish to play. And if you are not getting the starting gear you want, simply ask around. People are incredibly generous in this new land.

When talking with Arabela, answering "Courage" twice get a fighter, "Love" twice, a ranger, "Truth" twice, a mage. Or, after she picks a path, we can say "Fighter", or "Ranger", or "Mage" to override the previous selection.

The default builds aren't very intrusive, we can change our path easily. However, if we will became a tamer, I suggest picking Ranger for we get 11 on taming. If we want a warrior but not using blades, consider on starting as a mage for the skills can eventually be used but Blade related still will never be of interest.

If you want bludgeons make sure you turn down sword skills and turn down all you don't want to raise. Look at the 'k' key or 'y' key. I always mix them up.
