Haven't done any fishing for a couple of months and can't figure out how now that something seems to have changed. I have a pole, bait, and the fishing skill trained, but what comes next? Not finding answers in old release notes so far. I appreciate any pointers anyone can give me.

I haven't done it in awhile myself, but the last time I just dragged the fishing skill icon to the hot bar and right clicked the pole and selected equip.

Check out this link…Time Lord is a fishing guru!
    https://www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?threads/fishing-hot-spots.47390/

    How to Fish

    1. Visit a trainer and train fishing (a crafting/gathering skill)

    2. Buy worms (eg Fishmonger in Ardoris) (each cast will use one bait..watch the weight of the bait)

    3. Put the Fishing Skill cast ability (not the pole) in your toolbar

    4. Equip the fishing pole (unequip your weapons)

    5. Press the toolbar skill and the cursor will highlight green on water where you can cast. As soon as you cast, a timer starts and while the timer runs you have a chance to catch something…if the timer runs out before you catch anything, cast again

    6. As you fish a spot, the chances to catch a fish will decrease, so move around

    7. When you are finished, don’t forget to re equip your weapons

    8. You will use Butchering skill to clean and filet the fish, and Cooking skill recipes (press r for the recipe log) to cook the different types.

Thank you sir. Still trying to get the hang of it. Just bought 60 more worms and going to see what I can catch! Hopefully more than a boot...

    Edit: Caught a boot...

At this time there is almost no point to fishing. The fish you cook has no bonuses worth mentioning as far as I know, and the oil to cook the fish is almost impossible to obtain.

These steps are changed slightly, you only need to right click your fishing pole 1 time and select "equip tool".
This will flag it as the "equipped" gathering tool (which stops it from being destroyed, dropped in chest, or sold to a vendor until unequipped and automatically selects it as the pole to use for the fishing skill)
This will leave your weapons equipped. (yeah no more beating kobolds with your fishing pole)

I think it's probably cheaper to buy fish from the vendor instead of worms to fish with.

I think right now the best thing you can get out of it is bragging rights you fished up the ring or necklace.
(I still haven't fished them up, so I don't know if they are worth all the effort, but pretty sure they aren't at the moment)

You can also use it to fish up salvagable mats, but it's faster just to kill stuff or buy mats.

The only thing I know for sure it's useful for.. Is to lock your fishing skill(s), and use it as a Producer XP Pool generator.
Basically trading time + gold for worms into Pooled Producer XP.
But with the amount of time and gold it requires, and the limited amounts of xp generated, this isn't really much use either, outside of things that would violate the T.O.S

    My child,

In order to find a fish, a fish must come to you.
Yet to know how a fish will come,
you must know the ways of the fish.
To fish, you must be fish.
But in all of us is a fish nature.
    So to catch a fish,
    you must first find yourself.

    This is not about fishing,
    but being.

    Thus,
    One does not simply fish.
It is not an activity that
    one simply does.
It is a state of being.

    This is the way
    of the redfish.

-The water must be deep enough to swim in...
-You can also "mount" the fish as a trophy using 1 board & carpentry hammer & carpentry table...

I'd like to know how to fish...

I'm in Owl's Head. The skill trainer won't let me purchase the fishing skill. I have 907 gold. Is it more expensive than that?

Also, the Fishmonger in Owl's Head doesn't sell worms.

    ???

You need to find the Crafting trainer next to the Crafting Pavillion - he can teach you Fishing.

And the crafting Vendor next to him can sell you worms.

Where can I get some minnows and leeches? I've never been a worm fan for fishing.

Man, what pound test line do you need to reel in a horse?
