Gameconcept...we were told we could chose between modes as we like. Not that it would be easy or practical with socialising.

I mean...honestly, I dont even see a way to make it easy. Switching during play will result in abuse, going into pvp with someone, pesking him, and switching back to single player when his friends arrive is just one idea I get when looking at it. Do you have an idea how to handle it, if you look at how SotA was build and is right now?

The emptiness is much less if you have access to noble chat. I support the idea of zone chat, trade chat, or some other type of chat that is available to the masses, kinda sucks for people that don't have access to /orb to ask questions or hear about what is going on in game right now.
Outside of events, PvP, Guild Events, Dance parties, or purposely looking for new an interesting people to meet, really there is no reason to be in Multiplayer mode, just more competition for resource nodes, kills, and quest items.

I dont use the solo modes or friends only. Pointless. The point was to interact with other people. My issue is the chat system. It sucks. By the time i try to say hello to someone they have already shot off across the screen to another section and gone. Hard to meet and make friends with the chat this way. I know you can whisper to someone but hell its annoying that the chat tabs are so hard to switch over. Spending so much time doing that and not able to converse very well.

I'm not in a guild, I've never used friends mode. Clearly therefore, the answer to your social problem is to leave your guild :)

Apparently I'm not sensible then :p

I quite enjoy running across other players when I'm out and about doing my gathering/grinding. Sometimes we stop and chat, sometimes we ignore each other, sometimes I run off without noticing they're chatting to me because some creature attacks and swamps my chat log. If someone's already harvesting the resources I came for then I'll just move on to the next zone (or after the control point), no biggie. Quite often (but not too often - be interesting to see how this changes after final wipe) when I head back to town to sell my loot there'll be someone there I know or someone looking for a little guidance which can be a nice change of pace. All of this I'd miss out on if I went single/friends-only.

There have been multiple occasions when I've been dealing with a shopkeeper or vendor and only noticed after I've run off that someone was trying to talk to me. It does make me feel like a bit of ****.

Exactly, that would upset a lot of people if they go back on that.

Privatizing resource nodes much like it is in GW2 would help to draw people to muli-player mode without ruffling a lot of feathers I think.

Or they could just make encounters of unknown players in wilderness scenes less common, so the wilderness feels like wilderness... Then people could go into a forest to somewhat reliably feel alone, but still find traffic in towns and at crossroads and other places. Unlike the current situation, where people log into SPO, then go into an empty town, and also subtract their body from the town in OPO.

Global chat: it just means less people will go into towns and find gathering places in towns for local chat.

Still wouldn't fix the problem of people going into the other game modes to farm experience, and it would take readjusting the number of nodes in every zone to reflect them being individual to every player. (It would make the excess resources of single player translate everywhere).

What I'd love to see is dynamic spawning, where more players in a scene equals more mobs and resources. Although, it might take some tweaking to not still favor friends mode.

Aye, you have a point there and that's a nice idea. I wouldn't want them to change anything that would keep anyone from going into single player online or friends only online mode if we choose though, it's one of those nice features about the game that makes it appealing to have the choices. They need to make multi-player more appealing without upsetting people that like to play in single player or friends online only modes....tricky tricky hmmm hehe

I will create two characters: one for offline mode, and one for all online modes.

Friends mode is needed for the Pvpers who wish to party up with nonPvPers, to allow them to heal or ressurect the pvpers safely and without putting themselves in harms way (because they'd be flagged for pvp, and if in multiplayer, could have unintended conflicts with others who view the pvp flag as an automatic 'come attack me' flag).

    Yup.

Elite Dangerous did the same sort of thing and as a result the vast majority of players are in solo or friends-only mode. The full-on online folks (especially the pirates) have been and are POed.

Unless the population of players is so ginormous that it doesn't matter. But given the horrible reviews that are out there in the world now, a large population might not be realistic.

Well said and I totally agree with this.
My opinion: just play the way you personally want to play -- that's why we have been given so many choices in the first place :)

I have always played Multiplayer and plan too even when there is many people.. I sure That I am not only in this..

at the moment there is only a very small percentage of players playing. if you check each new release you see much more players and even then thats still a small percentage.. so I would not be to concerned until final wipe then we will see :)

I have only played in Multiplayer, but I also have seen a very minimal amount of people. I don't have a guild, or many friends on my list yet. When people pass each other I don't see much interaction. Naturally this is to be expected with development.

I think they should remove the ? from Nearby players. The need to target or now mouse over to reveal the names of those around you is tiresome. Global chat wouldn't be a good thing, but a zone chat would.

If you can find the players in the scene then the ? is replaced with their name anyway. What might be good is a way to add the player's location as a marker on your compass, though I expect the PVP people would ruin that one for us.

That is a good point about PVP. If player names are displayed, then you might get excited and go seek out a nearby friend, or a famous player. Even in PVP you might go on the hunt for an infamous player. As it stands, people just pass by without ever knowing who is around them.

Oh i see people.....i am busy doing stuff and someone runs by....scares the beejeesus outta me....But i know i am safe from them. Only one time have i ran into someone who was being in need of help and i helped fight off baddies. LOL. Then i got killed and was left to fend for myself. Pfffft. Oh well. I played other games long enough I have determined to fend for myself if i have to so no biggie there....i will stay in multiplayer for the most part.
