Title:Quest Loop Valhold Palace - NPC Essen
Reproduction Rate: have not tried as I am stuck in a quest loop. Retried chat with NPC but no success for escort task.
Blocker? Yes
Details: Talk to NPC Essen - Start escorting NPC. Then NPC walks back to starting location. Nothing happen except following message "You are no longer escorting Essen"

Hmm. Essen talked to me where he is standing, beside the throne, when I spoke to him. I didn't have to do the escort. I did have to do the escort when I spoke to Mara.

 

I talked to King Grannus first (previous norgard quest). Then I spoke to Mara, I got a new quest (Lord Demig arrest). Then I went to speak to Essen, this is when the escort failed.

 

I have repeatedly attempted to engage Essen in the same way after receiving quest guidance from Mara, so far 10 /10 attempts, even after quitting and restarting the game; Additionally, multiple "You are no longer escorting Essen", successively appear in the chat window after Essen fails to path properly.

Initiating the conversation with Essen from a different location, ie., the steps at Grannus' throne causes Essen to walk to the Avatar's location, initiate the escort, and then attempt to walk to his starting location, rather than path out of the room and proceed accordingly. Essen remains, stutter-stepping, in a stationary location, on the stairway.

 

I tried again as well but still no success.

Details: After engaging Essen he asks to follow him, he walks off a few feet and turns around. "You are no longer escorting Essen" repeats in the chat window until you leave Valhold Palace

I have also experienced a strange loop with Essen:
Talked to Grannus, gave him the amulet - after he gave the amulet back - I talked to Mara as her request to talk to her was the first one in my journal) ... I followed her ... got her quest ... returned
... then I talked to Essen, he asked to escort him upstairs -
I could escort Essen to the second candle holder - then he returns to his starting location next to the throne ... I escorted him further ... he walked to the candle holder and returedto the starting location next to the throne - I made this loop about 5 times and then decided to wait a little bit and give Essen more space ... resulted in "You are no longer escorting ..."
Engaged Essen again in conversation - he asked me to escort him to the stairs ... same loop

Locked out ...

Did Mara's task ... returned

locked out - and tried again ...
the same loop (Essen walks to the second candle holder and returns to his place next to the throne)

after that I decided to travel to Hidden Vale and get at least some XP from quests over there

 

I get the "no longer escorting Essen" over and over again. The first time I talked to him he started walking then went back when he took about ten steps. He kept doing it then when I moved over to Mara he stopped walking back and forth I kept getting the repeated no longer escorting but it allowed me to talk to him again in his original spot and get quest.

It's odd to get two different quests with same goal... get Demig, one via Ferig with a warrant the other by going to Demig with writ and scepter. Kinda silly having mara walk you to her bedroom, maybe she expected me to flirt with her once there who knows lol

 

The same thing happens to me, too. It looks like Essen is interrupted by the second candlestick and then returns to the starting position.
