I thought these used to be a thing, but having spent a good deal of time wandering the overland map, I have come up with zero.

Is there a point I have to reach in order for them to start happening? Are they temporarily disabled? Has there frequency been hammered down to near nil? Bugged?

I tried doing a search of patch notes at sotawiki, but nothing came up in regards to this.

They still happen - not as often as it used to though.

There are some trigger points along the Perennial trail, east and west of Ardoris.

I'll just have to keep trying then. Thanks for the responses.

I thought I would bump this thread. I do wonder if they turned off the random encounters. I have not had one in a long long time.

    No they did not.

Got sucked into two of them tonight without 10 minutes of each other. One north west of Brittany, and the other south between Brittany and Etceter.

I recommend running around in the Drachvald region for maximum random encounter effect.

Oh god, im happy to avoid them. I just dont see the point of them. If there was some kind of contents in them, maybe it would be different. All I get is a few very green wolfs, or a pack of horses. Really, why?

I started having them once I went from multiplayer-online to singleplayer-online (in order to combat a different problem). Not too many, but they are definitely there. Haven't had much of a chance to go in and check as of late to see if they if I could get anymore in multiplayer-online.

I prefer these actually for harvesting.

I spent about a half hour harvesting everything in one of the bandit ones - of course when I found the chest I got a whooping candle!

Geez, talk about a let down on loot!

But still, lots of harvestable materials and easy to do - that's what I use them for

And make sure you stay still and look at that ground while trying to figure out what the point of the encounter is....don't look up.

The most I have been able to find in the area until now, was 4 copper and 2 cotton... on the positive side, it did not take me long...

Things that are not fun in this game:
    • Random encounters.
    • Slowing to a crawl when getting anywhere near a NPC.
    • Slowing down when barely getting off the road on the world map (making it's comeback in R34).

I like the random encounters but it should be a "do you want to check it out" button as I've seen suggested
As for the crawling yeah it could be a little less crawly :p

For the longest time, the devs have said they would become roving encounters. That is, you will be able to see what it is on the world map and avoid it if you wanted. Unfortunately, this never seems to come to fruition.

Oh was that for all encounters? I always thought that would be a new addition of encounters either way is cool with me it's not like I always want to enter them either but would be sad to see them go

I like the random encounters... easy enough to leave if you're on a tight schedule and they're filled with mats... I do wish they were skill level appropriate though... not too keen on the XP drain just to clear low level mobs... One of the more interesting encounters I've had was a scene filled with Elder Wolves - it was fun - took a bit of strategy to make it through without ghosting.

Seems like every time I log in and move a bit on the overhead map, I get sucked into an encounter which swats me flat before I accept it's impossible for me to achieve anything there and so run away.

Not long after I created my avatar post-final wipe I landed in a random encounter which appeared empty, until suddenly a dragon dropped right on top of me and ate me in one bite.

It might be more realistic than level matching, or the old text that used to inform you briefly what the scene contained, but I too have started to question the worth of this feature in its current implementation.
