I played SOTA months ago without issue, and eagerly awaited the final wipe.

I've logged in today and it is unplayable. If I'm in combat, everything slows to a crawl, with a sound effect every few seconds and a refresh rate of 1 screen every 3-5 seconds. Needless to say, I can only autoattack and cross my fingers.

I have my settings as low as they can go. What is causing this? It never happened before, and the same slowdown occurs if someone else near me is in combat.

Thank you for reporting. If possible, could you provide system specs, and any additional information? What scene were you in at the time this was experienced? What is your video quality set at from the in-game options? Thank you for reporting.

    Similar.

It's a freeze/frameskip, same as has existed for the past couple releases when rounding corners (almost every level of shuttered eye running up stairs triggers one of these). It's happening in combat, out of combat, while moving around.
Mine isn't as bad as above, but it's easily a 1-2 second lock sometimes as often as 5-10 seconds apart.

I have graphics to fastest, CPU from game is only utilizing about 60%, and almost all of the camera options are turned off, cloth is turned off.

    OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (6.1.7601) 64bit
    CPU: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 980 Processor (4) System RAM: 16347

ASUS RoG laptop, i7-3610QM 2.3 Gig, 8 gigs of RAM. Win 10 64 bit
GeForce GTX 660M. Driver updated today.

I have 75 hours logged in the game without a problem. Game now has a mini-freeze anytime there is chat. If someone is in combat nearby, it goes down to 1 frame every few seconds until combat is over. It also freezes for a second if I say, cast heal while in town. Since combat is a constant stream of text, it's nonstop glitch/freezing. This does not occur with spells or actions that don't invokve text, like casting Light.

It's acting like server lag, but unfortunately that makes it unplayable.

How do I check my ping in-game?

I did /debug and it is running 57-61 FPS, except combat is 3 FPS, which is unplayable.

The slowdown ends instantly upon the death of the creature. If the creature is not directly in front of me, I'm dead, as I cannot turn and look properly at 3 FPS.

I can see people in the distance in combat, and all is normal. The second I get close enough for the text to show up, I freeze up and FPS goes down to 3-20. I get to sit frozen until their combat is over.

If I chop down a tree, everything is normal until it falls and the server has to communicate the loot box, then it's a one second freeze, then back to normal.

Running through town, the same hiccup occurs when an NPC tries to say something. If I throw a "distract" near a group of four NPCs, I get a solid six second freeze up while the server tries to deal with the demands of such a task.

Dragged my desktop out of the closet, blew the dust off it, re activated antivirus, and downloaded client.

North Valeway ran OK at 2am. Went to Owls Had Mine and it lagged up again. In a fight, I couldn't even tell if auto attack was on before I was dead. A good 45 seconds of "I have no idea what's going on right now."

@clanger06 - Turn off nameplates. (N key). In a few other threads people have reported this has a drastic improvement.

    POSSIBLE SOLUTION

WEBROOT ANTIVIRUS AUTOMATICALLY HAS SOTA ON THE "monitor" LIST. OPEN WEBROOT, GO TO ACTUVE PROCESSES, AND "allow" SOTA.

PRELIMINARY TESTING IS POSITIVE. THIS EXPLAINS WHY SERVER CONTACT SLOWDOWN WAS PERCEIVED AS LAG... WEBROOT MONITORING WAS CHECKING ALL SERVER DATA
