Are the "survey" skills worth anything nowadays?

Found a lot of old info but nothing recent on the subject. Any reason to level them past 40, except that the nodes "glow" from farther away? Thanks!

Yeah and what possible good is skinning survey, I mean you just killed the wolf and it is sitting right in front of you...what the heck do I need to survey it for?

    lol...

I am very curious about this skill though. (other than for skinning - although maybe if it was high enough you could see more dead animals than other players.)

So without giving away too much, survey is now(and has been for a little bit) VERY important for mining and lumberjacking and foraging. Still testing for skinning, but it's possibly important for that too. I suggest getting it to 60-70 and comparing and you'll notice the difference pretty handily.

For the rabits, they are so small and often killed by other mobs further from you;)

Seriously though I wish they replaced survey with Crit increasing chance skill.

Does that mean that you find more nodes? "Invisible" nodes?

I suspect it has an effect on quantity and quality on harvesting. Regardless of what it does, besides distance of glowies, the tool tip should say it.

I've heard rumors from guildies that the higher your survey the more nodes will appear for you.

Does it increase the yield per node? Or "rare" drops? Beetles, tin, etc.

I think i'm seeing a faster respawn on nodes now that i'm in the 60s survey mining... might be just a false feeling though. Would be nice to know what the skill does =/

I know for sure it increases the distance at which you see the white dust swarm around nodes.

    dont think so .
how woud you code that in multiplayer ?
i stand next to a wall and can not mine it .
you come along and start mining it .
if a node is next to you it is seen by all no matter thyr survey skill ( atleast it shoud be )

Purely anecdotal, and it might just be my imagination trying to make a pattern fit, but...

I spend almost all my playing time in friends online, and only occasionally in multiplayer - I mined a lot in Owl's Nest in earlier releases, and knew pretty much where every node spawned - but when I first went there post-persistence, I thought there were far fewer nodes than I expected. As the survey skill increased, I got the impression I was finding more of the ones I 'knew' should be visible than I had been seeing before.

As I say it might be just 'imaginary' but I get the feeling raising survey did make some difference.
