wow this game gets my video card so hot i could cook an egg... and i have a alienware desktop... everyone should check thier air flow remove dust etc.. u may not realize how hot your video card is till it burns up and maybe take the motherboard with it.... either way ill just play with a fan on it .. till i burn it down then get a new one if it cant take the heat.... lol.... ok was just wondering what others find when u open the side and check how hot is your video card while this game is playing... it will make u think about airflow..

Specifically, what temps were you seeing on the GPU ?

Yep, this game runs like Witcher 3 with the hair physics enabled. They really need to focus on performance at some point. =P

I don't know I got a new build with an SSD and my graphics card is ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB ROG STRIX VR Ready HDMI 2.0 DP 1.4 Auto-extreme. I have a question. I did a bug report from seeing the follow thing happen and it was mentioned to check my graphics card to see if it needed a new drive which it did, so then I thought ok I should be good now and then last night I it happened again. So while zoning out to the map or in town from the , and also zoning from a basement, occasionally I will get this:

It never happened with my old computer which was an I3 Alienware X51. Here is my build, sorry it's long. I need to trim it down. ;)

a 1060 is 17% less performance than a 980Ti but i would still think it would cream this game. perhaps you just need more fans exchanging heat through your tower

@majoria70 Nice build! (I hope to upgrade to a 1080 (maybe even a 1080 Titan X) next year.

When I initially built my rig I had gotten (randomly and sporadically) Red, Cyan and Black screens. After a lot of testing I found it had to do with multiple monitors where at least one monitor was using the HDMI port on the card (apparently many Nvidia users were reporting the same issues). Of course, that is different than what you posted (since your's still shows artifacts and components from the game).

One possibility is that your power supply is not able to keep up. (650W) The GPU you have can pull close to 300W and the Z170-A benchmarks at 280W at full load.

Another could be the quality of the video cable (I've run into that too).

    Only ideas ... :)

Thanks Crag and Ravalox for the feedback. Actually I bought the cooler master HAF 932 tower because I wanted a case that would have great air flow. The only problem was I started this computer with the Nvidia GTX 980 and I hate to say it, but I spilled liquid on it and blew the card up after a couple of weeks of having my new system *sighs*, well *cries* ;) . Anyway so unfortunately I had to replace my graphics card and no 980's were available so I could only afford, well couldn't but did have to buy the 1060 instead for price consideration. Crazy right? *. I hate admitting my stupidity, but there you have it ;). This tower is vented all the way around and so huge it is on wheels for easy moving lol. I thought it had plenty of fans, hmmm but I could add more I'm sure. ;)

@majoria70, sorry to hear about the unruly beverage; how dare it jump onto your rig like that!

I went through one heck of a time with mine too. I originally built it in March and since then went through 5 GPUs, 5 PSUs, and 2 motherboards (not to mention the other items I ended up buying new ones of while diagnosing). One of the two original GPUs was bad, and it may have blown out the motherboard.

EVGA was awesome about working with me on this, and kept sending new GPUs and PSUs. I sent the MB back to ASUS and they took so long to repair it, I ended up buying another MB (same model) (figuring I'd sell the repaired board). when the repaired board came back, I put it back in service (because the machine still wasn't acting 100%); that lasted only 8 days. So after much swapping of parts, I finally have a stable setup.

Bottom line; if the GPU was shorted while in the MB you are currently using (and still using the same PSU), there is a chance they were also impacted. With my bad MB (which ASUS said had a "power issue") gave me symptoms including "fuzzy" or "scratchy" looking graphics and black screens (and sometimes where the card would just fail completely until a reboot).

A couple of things you can do if you haven't already: See if it only occurs with SotA, and I'd try running some benchmark software and see if anything odd happens then.

These kind of issues really stink, hope you are able to sort though it.

Ahhh thanks. I appreciate it and sorry to the OP for derailing this thread, truly it is not all about me ;) lol. So overall my game runs pretty fantastic on the SSD and just about 3 times I have seen the gorgeous colorful screen. I know it means something and I have good things to check now :) thanks again.

Call Alienware, get an RMA for that video card, somethings wrong with it or it's not seated correctly... If your handy, you can try to pop it out and re-seat it yourself, but call 1st, there maybe a warranty seal on the case... It would void the warranty if broken...

Mine does that too, but fortunately I use "MSI Afterburner" to monitor the CPU, FPS & GPU while playing, GPU hits 70 C pretty quick... AsRock supplied me with F Stream utility, so I can tweak the fan speed of every fan in the system...

Yeah i thought the power supply a little light for that system. Probably better off with at least an 800w

I built a gaming rig to handle Skyrim on the highest settings in-game + driver level mods.

This game wrecks my GPU on the lowest possible settings and complete neutering driver-level

My general rule is at least 20% above max spec total. ...and to be honest the price delta between an 800 and 1K is not that much, prolly worth getting a minimum 1K for most systems today. I went with a 1600T2 for mine, but the system is pulling less than 1K at peak. The 1600 was because I planned to have both 980ti cards running in SLI, but so far I don't think I even need the SLI, so the second card is still in a sealed box!

@Black Death ... Radeons tend to run hotter than Nvidia based cards. Is your card running extremely hot for Radeon benchmark numbers, or just hot in general? Depending on the card, might be worth updating to the most current, and/or considering water cooling.

I think the key is to run something like MSI Afterburner and determine if the card is throttling due to the heat. If it isn't throttling and the temps are within averages according to published benchmarks, then not too much to worry about ... plus a cheap heater for the winter ;-) If it is throttling, then the card is not getting cooled down enough.
