So what do people think are fair wages for a day's work in New Britannia? I'm thinking along the lines of a Companion-For-Hire...?

IM thinking all the amounts in the poll are way too high.

You mean like a hireling? :D

It would depend on the skills of the person you're hiring. I imagine hiring a grandmaster to train you while you fight would cost more than training someone to fight rabbits and carry your junk for you.

for time spent doing what activities, precisely?

Low-level "aaaaaaa small wolf spiders, run away!" area foraging? If that's all my character can handle, 500gp/hr sounds fair at current market prices (assuming that in an hour, I can forage and deliver to my hirer about 50 resources including a decent mix of wood and ore and a smattering of a few other random things.

Not necessarily a GM as that might command a higher wage. Think more along the lines of an player-based escort quest. They accompany the player on a journey to a 5-skull PvP zone. Primarily responsibilities include killing stuff and keeping the player safe. Player keeps all resources, although the escort would also act as backup pack space. Escort only keeps the gold split during looting.

Yah it would be hard to convince me to play for 3 hours with an NPC hireling that costs even 1500gp.

i would pay 5k/4h for a pack mule to follow me around easily.

1500 gp for 3 hours would be a steal. id literally run him every day all day, even if i was just crafting.

Hmmm. I took this poll to mean what amount would I accept to purchase an hour of my time. In this case since I make over 5000 an hour adventuring it would take 5000 or more to buy my services. On the other hand if someone asks for help rather than try to hire me I would be glad to spend many free hours with them.

    Oh.

Well, in that case, you'd need to present me with an offer that was worth my time. If the wage were not high enough to at least equal what I'd make on my own in the same amount of time, I'd have very little incentive to help you, particularly if you received all the spoils and all I got was a wage.

Rather than a wage, you're more likely to get my time if you offered me a share. I.e. party of 5, split everything into 20% shares for each, assuming that the 5 of us make more than 5 times as much as a single player in the same area or venture. The only time I'd settle for less is if I'm being altruistic - i.e. helping out a newbie who's struggling to survive even low-level areas long enough to build up basic skills. There is a joy in helping people, but not much joy in enriching someone who doesn't need further enriching.

Considering the opportunity cost for me is i can mange 6k in an hour grinding a 1 skull zone, being hired to do something else has to match that and really should pay more then that to be economically rational.

Realistically I'll help people when they ask for free but from the hireling punt of view, the economy is to unstable to give a good price

Thanks for the responses, everybody. And please continue to discuss. It seems like there is a fairly wide variance in pricing.

I also appreciate that many would help for free, if asked. :) Also, I am aware it can be more lucrative from a gold standpoint to farm lower level scenes.

However, I'm trying to get a feel for what it would entail from the standpoint of a player-made escort quest. What would be "worth it" for an established player to engage? What is the baseline amout of gold necessary to draw a player away from whatever else they would be otherwise doing with that hour?
