Daily 2 gig downloads are very annoying!

For the past three days the game has required a 2+ gig download every day! This is ridiculous. Some of us do not have the luxury of uber-high-speed internet connections. A 2 gig download ties up my network for hours! Can you please be more concise with your updates and only update what is needed? There is no way you are altering 2 gigs of content in 24 hours!

 

Not that I doubt you, but today's patch (528->529) for me was simply 320mb.

Yesterday's (524->528) was 390mb. The past several patches before then have all been below 300mb.

 

I'm on a metered service.. so I can't afford 2G+ updates. Needless to day.. if there were multiple 2G updates.. I would notice.

 

I saw exactly what op described on steam. 3 days in a row 2+gb download.

Im getting multiple daily downloads of 2+gigs .. we had 2 in one day the other day.
This is running through steam, so it only takes 10-15 min but yea. As much as i want to agree with OP.. im okay with them for the sheer fact its usually to fix stuff that destroys my character =P

 

Which (you'll have to pardon me) is hilarious, because when people complain about slow downloads using the launcher, there's always someone who tells them to use Steam because it's "way faster, way better."

 

Not to mention the fact we are still in a game that is labled as under coonstruction.
But i guess that's easy to miss between all the warnings that it's still under construction

 

10,000,000 US dollars raised so far .... surely there is room in there for a proper Patcher.

The downloads hurt for me and alot of others suffer as well from the slow speeds, size and frequency of these patches.

The patches are needed and have to happen... but the patcher can be fixed.

My patches have been around 300MB lately as well. No steam. Maybe the issue is steams update capability, not SotA's?

 

It is frustrating downloading the patch, but it means the game is being worked on...
*sigh, these poor Devs can't win...

 

Yeah with downloads this big it pays to have fiber to the home.

 

I've simply disabled the game from patching at present. This seems to have been the worst run of errors, poor QA, and tons and tons and tons of updates than what we've seen in a long time.

 

Don't get me wrong, I am happy that SOTA gets updates because it DOES mean that work is being done on the game. But 3 days of 2 gig updates makes me think there is an issue with the Steam update process. It's almost like I download 2gigs and the next day I have to re-download the same update. This has happened many, many, many times before. Dev team, maybe SOTA Steam updates are broken?

 

Have you switched between Live and QA over the past few days? AFAIK, on Steam it'll redownload the entire thing every time you switch.

 

This is why I am still installed on a platter drive. No ssd till launch.

 

Generally these updates only run for about a week after the release then you have a clean few weeks before the next release as long as there are no critical issues that need to be immediately addressed.

Seems like steam is downloading the complete app each time there is an update. Not sure if there is a setting In steam to fix it or if it is a setting on ports side with how they provide their patches to steam.

 

I haven't switched. But I have not actually logged into the game since the first 2 gig update. I am going to try logging in directly after the update to see if the game fails to update until the game is launched. Maybe not playing causes the update to not get applied.

 

Alpha game = updates. Its the price we pay. Personally I like see patches, it means they are doing stuff
