It's the same for both, although if you play through steam the updates tend to be bigger in size for example patch 736 from the client was 1.4gb and steam was 4.2gb it's just the way steam handles it i guess i don't know why they're bigger in size.Oh and feel free to add me also Galahad Dragonsbane in game:D

Steam does seem to update faster but there is a hitch once you link it to steam it is forever linked to steam so if you have other steam games it is a pain to sell.

If you are confidant you will not depart, or only use steam for Sota then it seem to be more reliable and faster patching.

    That is the only benefit,

I don't play on Steam so it is your choice whether you prefer to play on steam client or windows client. It is totally up to you. Download times have improved for most so much in the months of development time. I do play on SSD and a bit newer system but I've heard others say times have improved for them overall. :) Welcome to the game @brypie84. I'm Majoria in game if I can help :)

I have tried both and Steam was a little bit smoother for me but no big difference.

Welcome to the SotA family, brypie84! Steam, for me, updates MUCH faster when there are patches or new releases. The SotA client can be played in 64 bit (or at least did when I used it) which was nice - I think you're stuck with 32 bit on Steam. But - the fast downloads makes it worth it for me.

I always use the patcher first, then wait for Steam to update because it takes much longer.

Hello Brypie and welcome to New Britannia! No opinion on Steam vs SotA launcher. Used to be it took a TON longer to update via the launcher but it's been many months since I tried.

Regardless, I hope you are enjoying your time here, which will hopefully be a very long time!
