Vendor, I dost would like to buy a bank from the guards! (Responses to merchants)

Well, merchants weren't actually, you know, working in R1, but that didn't stop intrepid avatars from chatting them up anyway. (Which is really helpful, we have a pretty good sampling of what people will say to a merchant to get them to sell things.) The top 10 list (actually, the top 30 things) are all somewhat boring variations of "what do you have to sell?" and all of them will be supported, thank you!

Then there were the less helpful things. In no particular order:

• Are you a merchant? (I will be in R2!)
• Will you marry me? / Are you married? / (it just gets worse) / (they're going to sue us for on-the-job harassment)
• Sell me.
• I like beer.
• Give me all your money. / Give me your valuables.
• I love you. (Merchant Alyssa got most of these, but Merchant Norman has a fan.)
• You are worthless.
• KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!
• Your store is very cozy!
• Sorry, William, I smashed your crates!
• I'm standing on your table like a knave.
• What's flippity flapping wit chu dogg?
• Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?
• Darkstarr, is that you?
• Nary a decoration throughout the town. Do you not celebrate the holiday season?
• (To Merchant Alvin) Where is Simon and Theodore?
• I spent all day running around. I found some treasure chests!
• Bringeth me to Lord British, Defender of the Realm and maker of MMORPGS

I'm not sure whether I'm happy or disappointed some of my attempts weren't on the list.

 

I feel I underachieved by not trying to be funny. I took the effort seriously, and tried to ask legitimate questions.

 

Post launch people will try all sorts of stuff. Not to be funny for Lum's sake.. but to see just how smart the conversation AI really is and what they can get away with. You think this stuff so far is silly.. wait until you see what's coming.

 

That's definitely the helpful part, and the silliness tends to filter itself out since very rarely will it be repeated.

 

I'm not sure I was trying to be funny....but sarcasm followed rising levels of frustration.

 

I said "spam spam spam humbug" to someone but sadly nothing special happened. Then again, Iolo wasn't there...

 

I kept saying "99" but received no rations and "b" and "c" didn't work to buy a dagger or mace either.

Not many people asked about prices. Are we going to be able to haggle?

 

I believe I was likely one of the several people who asked, Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?

I attempted many several things, frequently referring to myself in the third person hoping Lum would notice... and add Mishri to some responses.

 

I have been rather disturbed by the volatility of crates and barrels. I'm a little surprised their owners weren't.

 

And how loud they were....I had to turn my sub down because every craft hit shook the floor and deafened me.
