I've been enjoying crafting for the most part, doing a little here and there, but I have to say that after making a set of copper plate armor... Not too impressed. The amount of materials to do that is beyond ridiculous. I used up the whole stock of ore I had from 56 levels of farming here and there.

If this is working as intended, then what, exactly, is the intention? To turn people off of crafting? I guess there are plenty who enjoy that, but it's not appealing to me.

Oh just wait till you need tin...

But, it’s really easy to acquire all the materials for crafting. Get them yourself or buy them. That’s what I do.

You think that's bad, try getting 1200 granite for a single room.

If you're concerned about materials, try some masterworking. :)

In theory, the best gear is player made. So, they're not going to make it easy. Getting anything over a +8 with stats that really compliment each other and also have a decent amount of durability is going to be very difficult.

That said, their are some changes in the plans with the addition crafting specialization.

Glad you can afford them, most can't.

It's really not that expensive. A full set of copper plate for example - if you purchase all the materials is going to cost you around 8k gold.

I just harvested copper ore to build all my gear in the beginning. I just searched around to find the best areas that had lots of copper to harvest.

There are crafting changes coming in 2019. Hopefully along with mastery we also get a pass on stuff like this. Because you're right - it's dumb.

    Sure, for a "basic" set - with no enchant/masterworks - that's true.
But who wants to wear a "basic" set of armor ?

I crafted and used nothing but basic armor and weapons since I started playing. Worked just fine for me.

Now I can of course mast craft them now.

I'll enchant and mw anything for new players if they provide the mats. Which is around another 7.5k gold worth of materials to put one enchant and one masterwork on each piece. Not exactly breaking the bank there.

Top gear is rare (rare materials, 3 MW, 3 enchants, with good rolls). But decent gear just a bit below are sitting on vendors across Novia in huge amounts. So there is a lot of crafting going on.

Someone who doesn't like to craft can find great deals by shopping around. I assume that only a few dedicated crafters will actually make a profit, but it's still fun to craft for personal use and for some small business here and there (if you can take the slow process).
