    I do not gain any pooled XP when watering or planting while they are turned off. I can gain XP while planting only if my harvesting is turned on. If the whole tree is off, I gain nothing for pooled XP

    You only ever gain XP for planting (just to note). I.e., you will never gain crafting XP for watering or harvesting. I have all my skills currently turned off in the tree, and I always earn 50 Xp per spot while planting.
