    You shouldn't be smelting ore at the same place that you're smithing. Smelting ore needs to be done in some sort of a furnace, not just a forge. Smelting ore needs to require more than just coal.

    There are multiple types of molds to use with the smelting tongs and iron/coal. Smithing and smelting take place on two separate tables as well. I'm sure it's not totally realistic, but it makes sense to me.
