I was a Developer+ backer back in the day, and now that I'm getting back into Shroud I'm taking a closer look at the provided asset packs. Here's the start of my explorations; I show how to replace the robot in Unity's third person character demo with the avatars.

Getting clothing working on the models will probably be challenging so I'm going to put that off; I'm going to look at the housing models next. (There's an AMAZING amount of material in the Dev+ asset packs; it would be an excellent starting point for someone wanting to make their own fantasy RPG).

The character models in SotA are great. The attention to detail with breathing, blinking and looking around when idle is AAA grade in my opinion.
I would totally use the assets if I had access to them.

Go for it, they average around $10 a pop on the Unity asset store.

Wait, are you saying Portalarium has these particular assets on the Unity asset store?

Or are you just saying that assets in general on the Unity asset store are around $10 a pop?

I think he is stating that there are similar assets in the unity store for $10 / pop. The game assets are available to Dev+ level backers to play with.

Yeah, I didn't think that Portalarium had made them available separately.

I will add in here I feel like my Dev+ membership was well worth the $$$.

What I was saying is that the assets were originally procured from the Unity asset store, so if you want access to them without needing the Dev+ package, you can hunt around and find them for yourself, average price being around $10 a pop.

Near the start of the development process most if not all assets were developed fully in-house; those are the ones included in the Dev+ pledge package. It was only when the game got larger and more complex that more assets were purchased from the Unity store and adapted to SotA. Third-party assets are unlikely to be included in Dev+ due to being third-party.

Portalarium wouldn't have had permission to redistribute assets purchased from the Unity asset store like that. The license of such assets indicates that they must be only distributed as embedded in a game executable and not easily abstracted. The Dev+ assets that Portalarium created in-house are distributed under a similar license; you can distribute them as part of a game executable but not as original individual files.

Does the asset pack have ships and boats? (just watched video, there's at least a house boat) unity seems to have a way to create waves... I wonder if the Avatar's can swim? ;)

I haven't looked into the animations in detail yet; I'm guessing there's swim animations. In any case, traveling around in ships (and shooting the cannons!) was one of the coolest things in the first five Ultimas that was sadly missing from the later Ultimas.
