On page 63 Chapt. 7, this is mentioned and have no idea where this power came from.

"But their escort was another matter. In truth, Aren had considered several times drawing the Avatar blade out of his scabbard so that he might know something about the strangers."

No where else before was this power mentioned or discovered by Aren he just seems to all of a sudden have it.

Syenna a couple pages before did mention "did you Avatar blade tell you that"

So just wondering if anyone had any thought on this or did I miss something in the earlier chapters. Or am I reading too much into this and was Aren's intentions just to provoke them.

My friend you missed something in the early chapter. :) When he first holds the blade and sees the people carrying the general the blade allows him to truly see those people for the first time. Then one the general takes it, he sees himself as he truly is...

Ya i went back and read that part, I didn't realize while reading it that it was the sword that was showing him the hearts of the merchants, because he did say he picked these guys just the other day, so I figured he was just remembering the discussions he had with these merchants. Also with the General, thought that was just the curse, not some sort of power the sword had to see into peoples hearts. Just saying its hard to pickup in the earlier chapters that the sword had this power until its obvious in Chapter 7. Plus how did Syenna know the blade had this power, Aren didn't tell her.

Actually, the sword first reveals its power back in Chapter 4 when General Karpasik demands that Aren Bennis hand over the Avatar blade. (pg 45-46).
