Brittany Alleys Factory/Plant Feedback - AKA Why so plain?

How does anyone get inside these structures and get out what they produce?
Keep in mind you have a NPC scheduling system and you have a great locations to send them during different work shifts.
Why are there no internal Structures such as watch towers or scaffolding?
Why aren't some of these exhaust stacks made out of brick as they were in the real world?
What do these factory's/plants create?
Where is the signage or company names?
