Can't see stats of targeted enemy without Shift-click

When a mob is soft targeted with Shift-click the stats of the mob seem to remain on the screen, which is good.

But now I seem to be unable to display the stats of a targeted mob unless I shift-click it. I tried it on wolves, which are pretty stationary until they attack, and even centering the red reticle directly on a wolf within range didn't bring up the stats. I had to shift-click it for the stats to appear.
