    i think chat should need some more possibilities
    i try to talk and roleplay with couple people in woods, this happens evryone in whole map hear what we talk and joins converstation.
    as harcore rp player i would like some better than whisper to singleplayer.
    like lets say area of 10-20 meter where you and your fellows could talk alone, withouth hearing more than that distance.
    or someone from other side of map ruining your roleplay moment there singing in chat justin bieber. this btw hapened.

    I couldn't agree more. There should be a chat option for us role players where you only hear/see the chat that's in ear shot. I don't necessarily want everyone reading my conversations and vica verca.

    I think it should be more/less than Real life with some basic concepts:
    - No player global chats (to be discussed)
    - Proximity based chat boxes.
    - Options to enlarge the chat box proximity range, maybe with three options: whisper, talk, yell.
    - Chat boxes proximity range should be limited by certain objects, like walls (special spy abilities behind the walls?).
    - If you talk in public, everyone near enough should be able to hear you
    - You should be able to whisper to some one with a graphical representation of it, over your head?
    - Special places could have special chat box rules: While standing up in a scenario you should have a bigger chat box range when you talk.

    I won't get to log in til tonight, but this really dampens my enthusiasm. I couldn't stand the barking npcs in R2 and I assumed they would fix it or give us an option. Now I'm looking at hearing every conversation in town? Ugh. How am I supposed to have a 1 on 1 conversation with anyone under those conditions?

    The npc barking isn't in the chat window anymore..but every player is. Sure, there's a whisper option..but no option to turn off global chat and just talk with people in your immediate area.

    I Agree with this, a heavy RP approach is one of the things I expect from this kind of game.
    Probably some people who arent't as enthusiastic with RP would want things like a global chat and a direct-chat whisper, they can be present too, as long as RP options also exist.

    Well there are chat tabs to filter out some stuff. But I have yet to see anyway to talk in something other then the local chat. It would be nice to have the option to just speak to those in your immediate area. It does kinda ruin roleplaying if you can hear what some person across the instance is saying and they can hear you as well.

    we could have some kind of item in our bag that we can link with another's player item, so we can talk from long distances (cell phones or walkie talkies in our reality). Just sayin

    We already can do that - just use the /w <playername>, message option. I agree with the concept that the chat box should be more localized though.
