Cooking Tree - A few Ideas

    Cooking

    Can be a great opportunity to improve the loot in the world , the low lvl recipes do need a rework but you can do alot more ... We already have a great system ingame that in my opinion i think is underutilised ... cooking system can really make it shine and add a touch of surprise to it ...that is discoveries .

    Discovering Ingredients

    Just like in the real world, none wakes up one morning and makes the perfect cake , its trial and error or practice make perfect ... but once you get the right ingredients figured out...its all just rinse and repeat or move on to figuring out the next perfect meal.

    We already have ingame the ability to discover recipes ....we could also have it apply to discovering ingredient mixtures for cooking .... players could combine different ingredients on a crafting table for better results . You can spread these ingredients everywhere in the world as loot from skinned animals, gathering plants , fishing and even mobs...from exotic salts or oils ...to different sugar types or exotic spices or mana elixirs ... Once players get them they can use them to apply a straight up buff to an already cooked meal ..or they can try to combine them with other exotic ingredients for spectacular results or failures . The only way to figure out how these ingredients mix is through trial and error but once you find a secret combination ...could be something really worth having ... or trading with other chefs for other secret combinations .

    Example of ingredients found as loot - Black lava salt , Sea salt , Pink salt , Coconut oil , Olive oil, Coriander ,Turmeric so on ... Some can be crafted like Garlic powder or Onion Powder or paprika ....

    Examples of flat bonuses these spices , oils could apply to a cooked meal

    For crafting

    crafting speed
    exceptional chance
    gathering yield
    load capacity
    exceptional chance
    fishing speed
    increased mw/ench chance


    For Combat

    reduce cooldowns
    reduce cast time
    focus regen
    increased max focus
    focus cost reduction
    casting speed
    combat damage
    maximum health
    health regen
    cc duration
    cc resistance
    dmg resist
    healing received
    block poisons
    combat skill related bonuses ( endless variety )

    And when combined successfully ...even better results .I think 5-10 of these ingredients added each release will keep Chefs busy and happy every month trying to find out what other ingredients can they mix them with .

    Server announcements for ingredient discoveries

    First 10 people to discover a secret combination could have a server wide announcement ...Player x has discovered a secret cooking mix and maybe get a special title.

    5 star rating food

    Based on number of ingredients applied to it .... normal food could allow up to 3 ingredients ( 3 star food) ...exceptional food could allow up to 5 ingredients ( or mixtures of up to 5 ) ( 5 star food ).

    Normal Food

    - Apply 1 ingredient for 1 star food or apply 3 ingredients for 3 star food
    - Apply 1 mixture of 2 ingredients for 2 star food apply a mixture of 3 ingredients for 3 star food

    Eceptional food

    - Apply 5 different ingredients for 5 star food ( or 1.2.3.4...ingredients for less stars food)
    - Apply 1 mixture of 5 ingredients for 5 star food ( or combinations of mixtures....1 mixture with 2 ingredients + 1 mixture with 3 ingredients will also result in a 5 star food).

    1 ingredient = 1 star

    Endless combinations possible.

    Cooking titles

    These could be awarded for different discoveries or being among top 10 to discover a mixture.

    Weight system

    We already have the weight system in the game .... we should apply it to fish and animals ...to determine how much meat we can get ... a 3 .5 shark shouldnt give the same amount of meat as a 7.2 shark when butchered . Larger fish /animals could also give meat used to make feasts ...buff the entire party/raid .


    Also the best cooking recipes in the game require lvl 1 cooking ...they should be 100 cooking at least... and dont make us choose between making a fish trophy or making food .... we dont have high lvl fish food because pretty much everyone makes trophies ...separate the trophy from the fish somehow ...maybe during butchering proccess....butchering a shark can give a bone/skin structure to craft the trophy and the meat .

    Cooking Skills

    Food Recycling - At lvl 100 50% chance to extract ingredients , from crafted food ,used in making rare potions or new alcohool recipes . ( Food Salvage )
    Mass production - At level 100 +10% chance for double oputput
    Awareness - at level 100 + 25% XP when cooking - at level 150 +50% when cooking
    Swift Production - at level 100 + 50% faster cooking, at level 150 75%
    Batch Production - at level 100 batch + 50 at level 150 batch +100
    Mixture Specialist - at level 100 50% chance to not lose ingredients when mixing , at level 150 +75% chance
    Mixture Potency /rarity - at level 100 +20 % potency, at level 150 + 30% POTENCY ( or replace with chance to get a rare mixture with double bonuses )


    To conclude its all about variety and i think this system brings alot of it , instead of cooking within designated boundaries ....we get alot of freedom to choose what buffs to assign to a food and the element of suprise through discoveries .... hope you find some of these ideas usefull if not for now maybe long term ....

    I think these are extremely great ideas and worthy of this game. However as we have seen with the quality of work @Chris and his developers have shown us this will be practically impossible for them to achieve. If anything they will take this idea and make a low hanging fruit version which will just be a slap in the face of what you want.

    Sorry to say this but this amazing idea cannot be done by this team.

    Yes using other ingredients should be easy. I know where I have been for the past 3 years lots of potatoes were used in making Cha-Cha better known as home made Vodka.

    Just to add on to this cooking thread. Food needs to be a lot more scarce. Right now there are people with thousands if not tens of thousands of wolf and bear foods in their banks trying to sell them at cost.

    Food is being created far faster than it is being consumed.

    All food should be of use for all time.

    Food should be combinable into alternative recipes as an ingredient.

    Various AI features/creatures could demand a food offering to pass or gain favor, including The Oracle, beggars, etc.

    This activity could/should spawn rare obscure quests.

    Make food salvageable into pet food, fertilizer, poison.

    Can we organize the Crafting table as well. Can we split the Meat and Fish recipes, instead of having it all under Food recipes..
