Cost of repair kit from vendor: 100gp

Cost of a blacksmithing repair kit (not counting gathered materials): 45gp

So you save 55gp for giving up 36 scrap, 6 ores, and 4 hides.

Is there a benefit to using crafted kits versus NPC bought kits?

None that I can see - unless you're a guild craftsman mass producing kits for the rest of your guildies.

You should really include the sale value of the gathered materials (metal scrap, ore & hides) in the cost of the kits. Even if you didn't buy them, by using them to craft the kit you are out that much GP value. Metal scrap sells for 1 gp each. Hides sell for 7 gp each. IIRC copper ore sells for 4 gp each. That is 88 gp.

So if you sell the raw mats to an NPC vendor and then buy the kit, it ends up costing you 12 gp for each kit. That is cheaper than crafting it yourself.

It is the value of ore that makes crafting them more expensive than buying

This is how I do all my crafting sales spreadsheets as well. The price of material on the market or to sell to NPC is really what your "time and material" is worth, so it bakes in those costs. Maybe we should all compare our spreadsheets someday. :)

I have my cells all tied together to I can plug in any values as the market changes. I whipped up this example and elected to set the gathered materials to 0 for arguments sake. Normally I set my scrap to 3 , and ore/hides to 10. That costs me around 250gp per! Are people really selling scrap for 1gp? It is a better value to sell looted weps in town than to scrap it and sell for less than 3gp at level 80 salvage proficiency.

So I have a very large spread sheet in the works. I can't keep up with the new content coming in :) (Thanks team!). If we can decide on a format, we could piece it out and maintain a master file. I would be happy to host it and/or port it to HTML.

Just in the time it takes to refine all the mats and craft them, in compared to how long it will take you to get 100gp, not worth it right there. As well, the points made above, point towards the cost of the mats being more then 100gp.
