Not sure if this is mentioned anywhere else but I was thinking that blacksmith could consist of different skills that need to be raised instead of one 'catch all' skill. (Also haven't completely thought this out so opinions are welcome)

My thought is, what if a character build weapons, we could have a Weapon Smithy skill for this; armor could raise an Armor Smithy skill, etc..

    Basically Blacksmithing could have categories:
    Weapon Smith
    Armor Smith
Tool Smith (Maybe not as it may fall under Tinker)
    etc..

This could be carried over to other areas as well:

    Carpentry could have:
    Furniture Builder
    Boat Builder
    Weaponist

And so on... Like this we could have various crafters each mastering their own trade or a couple of trades but they would be able to specialize in one quicker than if they became a general 'jack-of-all-trade' crafter.

    Your thoughts?

Not sure I'm following...the crafting skills all have different areas...like "tinker", "weaponsmith", "armorsmith", "quality"...and you have to improve each of them in order to do things within them.

Is this what you are asking or something else??

I'm looking at it from a UO standpoint. There was 'Miner' to gather the metal resources and then 'Blacksmith' to craft anything metal. A blacksmith had one skill to raise, 'Blacksmithing', and could make anything from metal such as armor, weapons, etc.. That's it.

I was thinking the 'Blacksmith' skill could be broken into specific areas and people could train each separately.
    Weapon Smith
    Armor Smith
    etc..

This way for example I could be a master weapon smith but not know how to make a shield or chest plate. The opposite could hold true, another player could be an armorer crafting the finest suits of armor, shields and such but not be able to make a decent sword at all. Another person could be pounding out horseshoes and such as a general items smith.

Point being it would create a more diverse market where people could specialize and master a particular area or get a general knowledge of all the areas related to a particular craft. If there is no limit they may all reach the same place eventually but how they get there and establish themselves will be different in each case.

If there is a limit then it may make things more interesting to have to shop with one person for a weapon and find another for armor if looking for the best possible items. Someone who chose to learn both might make weapons and armor for newer players but the equipment would be of lesser quality and never reach the level that a specialist would create.

This is just one example but it could be applied to other crafting areas as well such as carpentry and tailoring.

Anyway, I'm not sure if this is what they are mentioning in your quote above Seir but it would be great to see... It's all just a thought rumbling around in my head right now. I don't expect that if they do not already have it that they'll put it in the game itself but it is interesting so I thought I'd share.
