Did obsidian crowns just drop in price overnight?

I have seen them on vendors for 25k - that would be nice...

 

I believe the price will be pramarily determined by how easy it is to generate gold in game vs how much high end, hard-to-get gear costs.

And also how difficult it is to get that gear.

 

Guess after final wipe somebody will Undercut that but hey, worth a try.
I am at least pretty sure they will sell for more than the 2500 the npc would have given you.

 

Remember: if you see something listed at a vendor for a price X, it doesn't mean that's what players are ready to pay. It means that's what players are NOT ready to pay - hence the item is still on sale.

 

Should hopefully be reduced to zero in the future, most premium/secondary currency like this in other games has no NPC-sellback value.

 

Future gold farmers are back in business!

 

They would have to sell gold for less than it takes to buy a crowna nd get the same ammount of gold, which is not reasonable. the only way you can use obsidian crowns for gold farming is if you grind to find them in-game or buy when the market hits a a high, and sell the earned gold when the market hits a low, which is a slow process.

Obsidian crowns are a slow an inefficient tool for gold-farmers. and also a major competitor.

 

I wasn't saying that gold farmers would use obsidian crowns. In fact, it was the 1250 gp value of crowns that would've thwarted the gold farmers.

 

it would have thwarted gold farmers but provided the same capacity to devalue gold that exploits would, considerign there are folks willing to spend hundreds of dolalrs to get ahead in a game. without the NPC value, it still thwarts gold farmers, but doesnt inflate the economy

 

Nope, Portalarium gave a RMT value to an item, a very necessary item, that has an in game drop% and is able to be traded between players. Crowns will be preferred currency over gold to sale to customers and all they have to do is undercut Portalarium's add-store price. Unless Port plans on making the drop% extremely low, which it can't without being seen straight pay2win, then farming crowns with high level accounts or leveraging the in game market value will be a good way to make a RMT profit. That is of course if the game as a whole as a decent player population in the first place.

It is still probably the best way for Portalarium to make profits itself, but comes at the price of what many believe is breaking past promises of no micro-transaction hell (which they should acknowledge and apologize for) and a perception of pay2win.
