Title: Distressed Child (Milde) in Resolute Quest
    Reproduction Rate: 100%
    Blocker? No
Details: Doing quests yesterday with a friend in party. Got the quest from Milde to find her mother in Middle Downs. Trotted around, being attacked by everything in the zone (per usual). My friend's play style with bow is to leave auto-attack on, so it kills any agro mobs nearby that happens to attack. Finally found Mildryd flanked by two thugly characters. I could not click or target the thugs at all, but I was able to start a conversation with the mother. When my friend came close, auto-attack kicked in, and killed Mildryd instead of the two thugs we thought would turn agro like most other encounters of this type. This is wrong. No choice was selected in my conversation (I didn't even get through the first sentence of reading her conversation). The objective of our quest was marked hostile and was killed, even though we were supposed to save her? The thugs simply stood there, and were unclickable, untargetable, unattackable. As a result, my virtue took a hit, and the only option I have to "complete" the quest is to tell Milde that "yea, I murdered yer mom". So not cool, at all.

Steps to Reproduce: Have Auto-Attack on, Approach Mildryd and 2 Thugs, watch the woman die and thugs go unharmed.

She is a neutral npc and can be targeted. You have to be careful when doing that quest (I just killed the thugs).

    1) Closest target was a thug, not Mildryd.
    2) Thugs were not targetable/attackable.

I failed this quest when I was new too because I accidentally hit the NPC as well. The child hate me forever when I talk with her.

i don't believe this is a blocker: if you go back after the scene is reset she will have returned.

No. She is not reset. The two thugs are there, but she is not. And my quest log has moved on to the "tell Milde I murdered her mom".

The thugs and Mildryd are all neutral, meaning they can all be attacked.

The reason they're all neutral is because you don't have to be the good guy here. There's no wrong choice; choosing to side with the bad guys is a valid option. The fight can start with combat actions or with some of the conversation choices.

(In these ways, the thugs and Mildryd are similar to Hartley the Outskirts Fence in Solace Bridge Outskirts, and other neutral characters found throughout the game.)

I don't know why @Rowell couldn't target the thugs. I've added the bug as issue #66958

My main concern is that Mildryd was the first thing auto-targeted when someone in the party had auto-attack on. I think it's horrible game design to have a quest completely ruined because of a system mechanic. I want to save the woman, not have her perforated and murdered by an over-cautious party member. I know there are other quests, where you are given a choice to save the character or attack/kill the character...and that is handled in the conversation (ie "So, what do you want to do? [Pull Mildryd out of Harms Way] [Attack and kill Mildryd]"). I've seen it a dozen times in other quests, where if I chose the "attack" option, THEN the conversation ends and the character becomes neutral/hostile. One example is the quest to get the Bandit Leader's Head in Highvale, and return it to Resolute. I went into Highvale, saw the bandit leader, could not attack him. Had a chat with him, was given the CHOICE to attack him, or join his gang. When I chose attack, he became hostile and could be attacked. That's the standard way this sort of thing is handled in SOTA, from my experience. The Mildryd murderfest is not.

My suggestion is to have Mildryd NOT be neutral. Have the conversation give you the choice to save or kill her, like most every similar quest in the game. It sets the player up with correct expectations, and less frustration. And it sets the quest up as a standard.

@Sannio, please see my above comment on what I believe to be bugged. It's basically that this quest does not act like most every other Save/Kill quest in the game.
