If I'm making cloth or leather using metal bindings, does the metal type affect properties of the armour produced?

yes. if you go to desolis, then hit the cart to renzia, there is a crafting museum there that shows all different types of armor and different mats used to make them. the best ones are not always the same type, like epic, augmented or fortified. I mix them up to try and get the highest bonuses I am after. For example, for leather I do epic chest and legs, and fortified boots helm and gloves. For cloth, I do augmented chest, the rest epic.

But that museum will always be right, even if they change things, those changes will be retroactive and all the stuff in the museum will change too, give you proper up to date information at all times.

As @Mac2 has said its often frustrating as there are a LOT of out of date resources out there. As long as changes are retroactive the ingame museum will reflect the properties of gear of all type and also shows you the aesthetic differences, too, and has all of the drop component stuff as well - or nearly. Our museum curator was kicked in the head by a unicorn trying to study the properties of unicorn hair and has yet to be replaced.

We also have a showcase of all possible masterworks/enchants for each piece as that's usually the next question after material bonuses. We do keep toying with the idea of creating a website to go along with this ....it might happen, I will poke @Scoffer harder.

Did you mean the cart at the South Entrance of Desolis there are 4 carts (none are found at the north entrance) and one of them goes to the Player Town called "Rinzai"? There are weapon and Armour Museums there!

Thats the one. There is a weapon museum and an armor museum opposite each other.

This is also a helpful calculator to figure out final crafted bonuses:

    http://catsgopurr.com/SOTA/sotacraft.htm

But as others have said, I use the museums in rinzai to have the most up-to-date values.
