It was mentioned in the last stream about a desire to allow players to build adventure scenes. The take on it was using Unity and providing the game assets in order to allow a player to build something. This of course is not possible due to the licensing of the assets and all kinds of other issues (ie they would need a lot of the source or at least SotA would need to build a lot into DLLs, etc in order to add the functionality to the scenes, bugs in player coding). An approach like this just isn't going to be possible.

The thing that struck me about the idea is we already have two foundations for this capability in-game, the POT system and the dungeon system.

    The design part:

    a) The POT system provides all the technical capabilities needed to set up the an adventure scene. What is needed is in-game assets to build the adventure. Here are some thoughts on basing it on the POT system:

    • Just like the POT system, if a player wants to build a scene its an online store item purchase.
    • Entry to the scene comes from an entrance that can be placed in a POT. There can be different types of entrances just like dungeon entrances but maybe use boats and wagons of the POT system to get to them.
    • A whole new set of "blank" base maps are provided a foundation for the scene. Maybe the initial ones can be pulled from current adventure scenes.
    • A whole new line of crown shop buildings and deco to place in the adventure scene but also allow anything that can currently be placed in a POT (except for lot markers).

    b) The dungeon system provides a great way to build out an underground scene but what really makes it an underground scene? The modular assets used to build it and the lack of a skybox and lighting.

    • There is nothing preventing a skybox/lighting asset that could be placed to provide the sky to the dungeon.
    • There is also nothing preventing the modular pieces from being "outside" pieces.
    • Provide more entrances that can be placed in POTs that aren't dungeon-ish in nature (ie boats, wagons, signs).
    • Provide new above-ground "dungeon" packs in the crown shop
    • Provide more "dungeon" deco but more above ground type deco. Maybe allow POT deco to be placed in the new pieces.

    The adventure part:

Adventure is the more tricky part as it will require MOBs, rewards, and quests. I do feel this could also be a wishlist for the current dungeon system too.
    • A whole new type of adventure spawners that can be placed in the scenes. Maybe the purchase (if the POT type system is used) comes with a few already but more can be purchased from the crown shop. We already have non-combat animal spawners and existing tech in the GM potion that spawns creatures. There also has to be some kind of spawner they use now in adventure scenes that could be converted as well.
    • On the new spawners in construction mode, allow the builder to create their loot tables and _provide_ the loot. All adventure loot would be provided by the owner and once the loot pool is empty, loot would not be gained until the owner restocks the loot table.
    • Adventure XP provided by the owner (ie drawing it out of their adventure XP pool). There has to be incentive to not abuse the adventure system. The owner would allot an adventure XP reward pool preloaded right from the owners XP pool. As MOBs are killed the XP is pulled from this pool until it is empty at which point MOBs no longer give XP. The owner would then need to refill the XP pool from their own adventure XP pool.
    • Have to expand the NPC conversationalist system to allow quests to be set up and incorporate into the current quest system. They would act just like SotA quests but would be noted somehow as a player adventure quest. Loot for quest success again, provided by the quest owner.

Ok glad that is out of my head :) Personally I think leveraging the dungeon system would be the best approach.
