Okay, thanks for the tip! I'll try that next time my NPCs start disappearing again.

 

You can tell if one is hiding in your building because you cant pick it up (the building).

Many of mine were also moved to outside the buildings. No idea why.

 

I actually did try clicking on the missing NPCs inside and outside my building when this first happened and I never saw them reappear. However, I wasn't clicking as fervently as you were in the video so I'll try your method if it happens again. I have NPCs both inside and outside the shops so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

 

And you need to be pretty close to where they are so your pointer snags the green box on the ground.

 

@Attenwood has the "why" been figured out/fixed?
I thought I'd lost what was left of my mind when this happened to me the other day. I unclaimed a lot in my pot... turned around and saw my NPC's (not adjacent to the unclaimed lot) had vanished. Logging didn't help but when I logged a 2nd account the name tag would show if I moused over the place the missing NPC's should have been As it happened.. they reappeared some time later on their own. Strange ;p
