My Bludgeon/Earth character is a joy to play, but has one great weakness: vulnerability to fire.
I've been trying to mend this, but not very successfully:
    Fireproof skill is 120
    Fire attunement is -72
Fire warding is 92 and raising
Using Shield of Ice when fighting fire casters (f.i. dragons)

I think the skills points I put into Fireproof are wasted because of the negative fire attunement, is that correct? What else can I do to improve fire resistance?

Raise nine other fire skills to 100. Also, fireproof doesn't lower your attunement, fire warding does.

greetings! dont forget to use douse and pot of ele resist as well :)

my main dragonslayer build is pole/light spec. i originally wanted to do a zero magic build so started off with magic warding. i quickly found that using just pots to heal doesnt work well after the consecutive potion use update went in. i opened myself up to limited magic and in doing so dropped the magic warding skill. my new goal was to work to use the fire warding and fire proof skills. for this my strategy was to zero-out fire attunement by gaining skill in fire skills to up my attunement. by doing this i have a fire attunement of 3 and a fire resistance of 161. adding in Shield of Ice and Douse my resistance bumps to 206.6. add in a potion of elemental resist and it brings me to 239.85. i usually do not have much of an issue with dragons unless there are extra mobs helping.

i have the following skill values:

    Flame Fist 115
    Fire Arrow 115
    Ignite Weapon 120
    Highly Flammable 100
    Firebal 110
    Immolation 115
    Fire Speed 100
    Fire Proof 107
    Ring of Fire 100
    Summon Fire Ele 115

    Fire Warding 105
    Shield of Ice 130
    Douse 102
    Elixir Receptive 101

I don't think fire resist really helps much vs. dragon fire. If you can't tank the fireballs when they're flying around, one thing you can do is just fight near something that you can stand behind for cover when they start to fly. If you're using bludgeon, you can't do much damage to them while they're flying anyway. Some places, like clockwork dragon in K'rul, don't have any cover at all, but most places have something. Also, if you're a heavy armor or bludgeon specialist, another thing you can do is avoid using anything that gives resist cc buff to the dragon and then hit it with a long stun when it starts to fly.

What Lazlo said. Dragon fire is (counterintuitively) a physical attack. I think the dot they can put on you might be fire, but the fireball and flame attacks do physical damage.

When fighting dragons, IMO, the key is to keep them on the ground !
I don't want to think what my SotA life would be without my 160 Gust (and I have very few skills beyond 150, most 140.)
I've said that if I had to lose all my skills but keep only one - it would be Gust. It will keep you alive............... :)

@DavidDC has future plans to address damage types for resistance, addressed here.

(but yes, get your attunement up!)
