It actually looks worse while I'm playing than what that screenshot shows.

I always feel like the game is far too light. It's one thing if there are well lit areas with lots of torches or lights to make up for being underground (in a basement) but it's another thing to have the expectation that will will ever be "not dark" underground or in a basement. It's subjective of course, but when you're underground or in a basement it's supposed to be dark.

I have a village stone basement, Ive put up 8 lights on the 1 floor, and it still feels dark.. I dont mind dark, but the lights need to effect further, including the light we cast IMHO..

See below, if I had that many lights iRL.. Id need shades.

We're working on fixing lighting. If this problem persists in R38, please start a new thread.

I think it depends very much on your display screen and gamma settings, which vary with screen type and OS type. In my case, the world is very dark on my MacBook Pro to the point where casting Light barely helps, partly because the default gamma is set high, and partly because the display panel has good vertical consistency. Making a custom color profile with a much lower gamma helped. On one TV set I've used, I use a custom picture setting that cranks up the brightness. In both cases, I have to change them back to get proper color balance for other uses.

    Yay!

A few patches back, the lighting in dungeons and basements was fixed. It looks pretty good now.
