Can someone confirm how 'going grey' works? Can you attack anyone? Are the cities safe locations like old UO? Thank you, Nyzul
There is currently no "grey area" in regards to PvP. You are either PvP enabled, or you are not. If you are PvP enabled, then you can engage in actions against other PvP enabled players. If you are not PvP enabled, then you cannot incur any harmful action against another player. The "grey" you are referring to would require that a non-PvP player be able to take harmful action against another player, which is not possible.
Which is too bad. The whole grey aspect was borrowed from what I know of, Ultima VII, if an NPC sees you steal. It existed in Ultima VIII, UO, Elder Scrolls adopted it and it's what made that game series so engaging. No grey, no stealing, less fun in my opinion.
@Razimus Since stealing is planned for Episode 2 such a gray could be planned for then as well. Until then we know that the oracle will keep track of stealing.
There are open PvP maps however where any player can take action against another player, even if they aren't normally flagged for PvP.
Is it really stealing though if they leave stuff lying around? Maybe they just want to donate to my retirement fund?
Technically untrue. There are open PvP areas where everyone is considered flagged, and unless you have specifically disabled the feature, you will be warned of this fact before entering. Thus any entry into PvP requires deliberate action. So ultimately the only way for someone to be targeted for PvP action is by their consent. That feature of Ultima Online that allowed reds or grays to attack blues outside of town is not intended in SotA.
I would love to see the blue/grey/and red again! Since all of our single accounts with multiple characters will be either blue/red/grey whatever virtues cover those, you wont be able to play a blue then a red unless you have another account (which some do) just something we will have to deal with and learn how to aggro mobs upon their blues when we find out
