Anybody has any ideas on how the guilds will work in SotA? I am yet not quite sure how the multiplayer part of the game will work. It was clearly stated that it won't be an MMO type of game. So the question is: 1) Will there be a competition in game? It was said that valuable construction plots and housing would create some sort of competition, but then again, if it will only be limited to certain amount of players, what will the competition be? 2) Again, is there a point in making a Guild/Clan? Note that the guild in a true RP game is not just a tag above your name. There were some guilds even before UO was released, in Ultima universe. Ultima Dragons is the most famous of them. Again, I created my own guild in Skyrim just for fun sake, for me and my companions in different towns and dressed them as I thought would be the guild dress code. So the question is, will it be possible for a guild (a group of players) to connect to the world with other players on it to conduct business (trade, war, co-op, etc.).
I believe today's video update cleared this up pretty well: guilds/clans are referenced as one of the mechanics to play online with. The online-friends-mode will let you see guild-mates, friends, and other acquaintances. I would like to hear more about guild mechanics, though, as well.
Guilds just being a chat channel/friends list would be disappointing. I would hope that SotA has just as much depth to the guild system as the combat/crafting/housing system. Guilds being able to establish their own town, tax members to pay for town upkeep, compete against other guilds in pve, pvp, economics, and participate in a political system such as competing to be a member of Lord British's Round..or Ankh shaped table. Too many MMOs today just slap on a chat channel, a shared bank, and call it a guild. I hope SotA does better than that.
