Heavy armour question

    Came back to the game a few weeks ago after a fairly long time away.

    I've switched round to a melee / heavy armour build this time with bard heals. Working very well and using a chain set I already had. Just wondering with various changes I've heard mentioned but not seen a detailed comparison, apart from spell casting ability is there any benefit to using chain over plate, or best to switch to plate in a build that's casting no magic for the extra DR, avoidance etc that plate brings?

    If you aren't casting (or only casting Life/Earth spells either very low fizzle), you're better off going plate over Chain.

    The advantage of Chain is to be able to cast better at the expense of some DR and avoidance.
