It is breaking new ground to maintain developer freedom. The alternative is the traditional subscription model, and that means a publisher puts the money up front instead, and thereby gains control of direction. And we know what direction publishers want - they want another WoW - but dumbed down even further so that it could appeal to 50 million people...

Us old schoolers are getting on in age. If we started on standalone Ultimas, we are in our 40's and at a certain comfortable stage in life. If we can't make this happen now, no-one can. And the team doing this (Richard, Starr, Chris and Tracey etc) are in that same comfortable stage of their successful lives where they can also risk doing this as well.

A lot of stars are aligning all at once to make this happen.

Oh dear this really needs to work, otherwise these games will die out with us.
That indeed would be a shame and is a great reason to pledge!

Well aside from the combat the pay to participate system of housing is the next reason i wont be partcipating. Why should i buy a game to be a vagrant second class citizen when i get it for free in reality

    1) You can pay for housing in game with in game currency.

    2) If you don't like it you're free not to play, it's totally on your choice! Why post at all about this?

1 - not if there are nt plots for people who dont pre purchase with cash. I prefer to try before i buy. I dont pay for promises until they are kept

2- because i want it to be a game i want to play and am entitled to voice my opinion. Dontcha think they want to know what keeps people from paying?

If you don't have a house is one question what to do with all stuff you want to keep but not carry around due to encumbrance?
Bank i guess is option but how much can it handle and at what price?

Will housing be realistically attainable without spending RL cash? Can I earn in game currency by playing the game and save enough to buy a house? Or is that going to end up being an extreme grind to do so? I played UO for years, so I understand the important of earning a house, but I'm just wondering if they plan on making getting a house via in game currency so difficult that it would be trying to force people to cave and spend RL money in order to get a plot/house in a reasonable amount of time.

These ideas are just a slippery slope because its not monthly which id rather have they somehow feel the need to do microtransactions which are fine but it should be kept to minimum and not be big things just should be quality of life

From everything I've seen there isn't any pricing decided yet so we really don't know the answer to that. Given that a house and land deed start at $215 for pre-buying I would assume they would be fairly expensive in game cash terms, but it is an assumption. I'm sure we'll see more details as time gets closer to release.

could they add a lot of size smaller than village?
the default house is so small so would easy fit on a lot half the size

So for the cheapest house its 150$ and all you have room for is to walk in the door androtate in place or is it at least going to be section 8 equivalent. I dont see a point unless it has storage im sure the bank will have a limit

And im oretty sure i read there was no monthly fee just a game purchase which would worry me about how they get ongoing funding but releasing a game twenty percent at a time and callig it a chapter you can charge for is pretty clever so for the full featured game it would be over 100$

Yeah theres no point in housing if i cant display my GI joe collection. A real britanian hero. And not the stupid doll ones. The small plastic ones. I dont want to be using my neighbors yard for my fight scenes
