How do I get to the vaults?

    I went into Opalis and eventually found the vault but it took a long time. I tried Midras but I ran out of ammo and had to leave. I definitely don't want to go through this on the non-QA servers. Are the vaults connected to the underground network?

    Yes they are all connected including the Confluence. Six of them should be on SOTAmap.

    The Opalis entrance is through the Rise then through Superstition Canyon. It is underneath the control point.

    I've been in two of them coming in the back way. Rhun Ruins back way is from the basement of Graff Mines, and there is a door in Rhun to access its portal (I think the portal was in the keep on the island) which is operated by a switch I never found, at least not from portal side of the locked door.

    So I jumped out through an open window.
